The Assistant Manager for Designing and Garmenting will play a pivotal role in overseeing the design and garmenting functions within the apparel retail division. This individual will be responsible for managing the end-to-end process of product design, development, and production, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budgetary constraints.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design Management:

    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external designers to conceptualize and develop innovative and trendsetting designs that resonate with the target audience.
    • Oversee the creation of design sketches, tech packs, and specifications, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
    • Conduct regular trend research and analysis to stay abreast of evolving fashion trends and consumer preferences.

2. Product Development:

    • Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to translate design concepts into high-quality, commercially viable garments.
    • Manage the sampling process, including prototyping, fitting sessions, and quality control checks, to ensure the desired fit, finish, and functionality of the garments.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including merchandising, sourcing, and production, to streamline the product development process and meet project timelines.

3. Garmenting Operations:

    • Oversee garmenting operations, including pattern making, cutting, stitching, and finishing, to ensure efficient and accurate production processes.
    • Monitor production schedules and capacity utilization to optimize workflow and meet production targets.
    • Implement quality control measures and conduct regular inspections to maintain high standards of craftsmanship and product quality.

4. Vendor Management:

    • Identify and onboard reliable vendors and suppliers for fabric, trims, and garmenting services, negotiating favorable terms and pricing agreements.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, fostering collaboration and ensuring timely delivery of materials and services.
    • Conduct vendor performance evaluations and provide feedback for continuous improvement and supplier development.

5. Cost Management:

    • Monitor and manage costs throughout the design and garmenting process, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints and cost targets.
    • Identify opportunities for cost optimization, value engineering, and process improvements to maximize profitability without compromising on quality or design integrity.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fashion design and garmenting roles, with a focus on product development and production management.
  • Proven track record of successfully bringing fashion products from concept to market, with an understanding of design principles, garment construction techniques, and manufacturing processes.

Strengths:

  • Creative flair and passion for fashion, with a keen eye for design aesthetics and trend forecasting.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
