We are looking for a talented legal counsel to join our legal team in Amsterdam and support MODIFI in its mission to change the world of international trade. At MODIFI you will have a great opportunity to not only be a contributor to MODIFIs business payments and global BuyNowPayLater offering but also actively help develop global fintech partnerships.

Requirements

Your impact:

• MODIFI needs a strong generalist who is comfortable providing legal input on a range of topics that include commercial contracting financial regulation data privacy payments trade finance and developing new products on the edge between technology and finance. You are keen to develop your expertise but you dont hide behind it.
• You understand that an excellent legal counsel combines legal strength with a healthy dose of pragmatism and commercial awareness. You are a trusted advisor to a range of business stakeholders.

Your responsibilities involve:

• Product & Commercial: You work with Product and Engineering teams on new product solutions such as an embedded finance solution for global collections of payments. You provide legal input on product design and compliance but you also drive commercial contracting with financial infrastructure providers partners and customers.
• Regulatory: You are MODIFIs expert on regulatory matters from financial and payments regulation to data privacy.
• Strategic Projects: The Legal team is coordinating strategic projects that are critical for MODIFIs success such as equity financing (VC rounds) or debt refinancing.

These are the skills and attitude that you bring:

• An LLM and 5 years of solid experience for example as a lawyer at a reputable law firm or as a legal counsel at a fintech company.
• Given the global nature of our business a strong candidate has practiced in an international environment with exposure to different (foreign) laws regulations and cultures.
• Experience with any of the following is a strong plus: fintech startups / scaleups structured and commodity finance trade finance crossborder trade or payments.
• Managing complex legal and commercial projects including managing foreign legal counsel efficiently
• You have a growth mindset. You build legal products and processes that are scalable.
• You make things happen by taking ownership for your work. You talk straight and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
• You have solid legal skills including research drafting and giving concise and clear advice. You are responsive and have a keen eye for detail.
• You are resilient and are comfortable juggling many different projects at the same time.
