POSITION SUMMARY

The inspector is in charge of fully understanding construction project plans and specifications ensuring construction quality measuring field quality documenting projects including daily written and photo documentation and testing materials on one or more concurrent construction projects. Depending on the project the Inspector will be able to operate and communicate effectively in a highway or airport setting. This job will function as the onsite technical representative in charge of inspecting contractor construction operations coordinating daily with the contractor and other organizations and proposing acceptance of finished work. Lead inspectors may be responsible for supervising other senior inspectors or inspectors. Senior inspectors may oversee other inspectors. A Resident Engineer will have overall authority for all inspection roles.

POSITION FUNCTIONS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes applicable codes standards and specifications and oversees construction operations to ensure compliance.
  • Prepares Inspectors Daily Reports (IDRs) and Daily Construction Reports (DCRs) as well as completing necessary inspection checklists for projects under their supervision.
  • Measures quantities for progress payments and acceptance of work according to contract requirements.
  • Monitors numerous field tests in compliance with the relevant criteria.
  • Conducts general inspections of construction activity to ensure compliance with contract agreements
  • Monitors the contractors site performance.
  • Monitors the contractors materials sampling and testing schedule
  • Controls field quantity measurement for pay items.
  • calculates pay items and computations.
  • Assists the Quality Manager in monitoring the Contractors application of Contractor Quality Control (CQC) processes.
  • Collects material delivery tickets and inspects supplies to ensure compliance with contract papers schedules and field orders.
  • Interfaces with CM. Quality Coordinator for all quality concerns.
  • Documents any qualityrelated concerns that result in nonconformance reports (NCRs) or Quality Deficit Reports (QDRs) in OCR.
  • Analyzes applicable codes standards and specifications and oversees construction operations to ensure compliance.
  • Captures daily progress images.
  • Ensures that all work done onsite complies with FAA Part 139
  • Informs the Project Leader/Resident Engineer of all concerns.
  • Other responsibilities assigned by the Resident Engineer

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of construction field inspection and applicable specifications
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to perform tasks
  • Ability to communicate well and professionally with project team staff or others
  • Must be proactive not reactive

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A college degree is desired but not essential in civil engineering electrical engineering construction management or a closely related discipline; a professional engineering license in Illinois is not required but considered a bonus.
  • The Senior Inspector job requires five to fifteen years of construction and engineering expertise that is directly tied to general field inspection and documentation on construction projects.
Must be certified in IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities
  • Should be adept in the use of tablet technology to prepare the necessary project documentation.
  • Must be skilled in Word Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Contractor schedules should be reviewed and evaluated for accuracy and progress.
  • Depending on the project this role depends on the applicants capacity to be badged by the CDA/TSA or other local authorities.
