Scarborough Community Legal Services (SCLS) is a nonprofit community based legal clinic primarily funded by Legal Aid Ontario. We provide clinic law services to low income individuals in a culturally diverse community. Our work includes individual case work public legal education law reform and community development activities mainly in the areas of tenants rights income maintenance law immigration law and workers rights.
We are seeking an Administration Manager to join our team. This position reports to the Executive Director engages in work with our Board of Directors and has three to five direct reports.
Supervise Administration Team staff
Discuss and evaluate performance of existing administration staff and interview and hire new employees
Issue discipline under the Collective Agreement up to and including preparing and filing disciplinary letters issuing suspensions and recommending termination to the Board of Directors
Respond to and resolve employee and client complaints regarding administration staff
Maintain Clinic employee personnel records
Approve Clinic employee leave requests
Assign administrative tasks to Administration Team staff
Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to manage the Clinics budget and forecast the impact of changes to funding and working conditions
Develop and implement Clinic policies in collaboration with the Executive Director including human resources policies and procedures
Attend Board of Directors meetings and Board committee meetings advise the Board on administration matters and prepare minutes of Board and Committee meetings
Participate in Unionrelated management committee meetings and collective bargaining
Communicate with Legal Aid Ontario regarding funding and other issues
Manage office operations
Find and implement solutions regarding office administration issues
Resolve technical problems and assist in resolving IT issues
Ensure efficient administration and coordination of all Clinic services
Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors Executive Director and other legal staff as necessary
Manage the website and social media accounts
Manage the phone system and ensure reception is covered on a daily basis
You have a minimum of five years experience managing an office. Experience working in a nonprofit environment and experience working with large funders is an asset.
You have experience working with a volunteer Board of Directors.
You have experience in human resources. Experience managing in a unionized environment is an asset.
You have experience with information technology systems and strong computer skills.
You have experience developing and implementing effective workplace policies.
You have demonstrably strong organizational and communication skills.
You have a commitment to social justice and working for positive social change on issues that affect low income individuals and groups.
You have the strong interpersonal skills that are needed to address the needs of clients from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds.
You have a collaborative work approach and the ability to work well in a team based environment.
Experience in community legal clinics is an asset.
Experience managing websites and social media is an asset.
This is a permanent fulltime position that offers a competitive benefits package and enrollment in the CAAT DB Plus pension plan.
The salary range is $72500 to $77000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
We have a Remote Work Policy that permits a hybrid work arrangement for this position after completion of a probationary period.

In recognition of the time and labour of preparing for and attending an interview SCLS will financially compensate interviewees at a rate of $40 per interview (expected time one hour). If the candidate is asked to prepare a presentation or assignment during the hiring process SCLS will financially compensate the candidate for that work at a rate of $40 per hour based on the time the hiring committee believes the task should reasonably take to complete.
