Job Summary

TITLE: Instructional Assistant - Native American Program

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Assist teacher with Native American students including bilingual culturally diverse resource preschool English Second Language etc. Modifies or assists in modifying lesson plans to individual student needs. Works with teachers to overcome student barriers to learning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED.
  2. One (1) year of experience working with children (preferred).
  3. State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  4. Native American preference (Section 9114 (c) (2) of Part A Title IX)
  5. Ability to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid.
  6. Ability to speak Spanish may be preferred for some positions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist teachers with Native American students in classroom settings.
  • Work with student in one-on-one or small group settings to facilitate learning.
  • Consult and collaborate with teacher to modify lessons to accommodate childs needs such as English-Spanish translation individualized instruction etc.
  • Prepare class materials for upcoming projects and activities.
  • Aid teachers in thematic units.
  • Monitor students on playground and in classroom.
  • Utilize district behavior modification program as needed.
  • Observe students development.
  • Assist in administering District and State tests.
  • Prepare documentation on student progress.
  • Organize materials/activities to meet specific needs of each child.
  • Copy materials for classroom use and for parent information.
  • Consult and collaborate with classroom teacher on progress of students.
  • Attend training as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Knowledge of early childhood learning methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of district policies and procedures affecting work assignment.
  • Knowledge of district behavior modification program.
  • Skill monitoring and assisting students.
  • Skill communicating orally and in writing.
  • Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse students.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Generally an indoor classroom setting

Position is exposed to infectious disease

Standing for a prolonged period of time

Moving light weight furniture

Exposure (outside elements)

This position may require strength ability to push/pull 30-35 lbs.
