Medical Director - Insulins
The Medical Director is delegated various responsibilities by the Sr. Director-Medical to provide leadership supervision coordination coaching career development and performance management for the staff within Lilly Diabetes US Medical Affairs. The position is a developmental role for future administrative leaders and is intended to provide a balance of administrative and technical responsibilities. The position requires a partial transition from Clinical Research Physician contributor (i.e. primarily a technical role) to managerial/supervisory responsibilities and activities of achieving results through others and supporting the management team in fulfilling corporate goals and initiatives. The Medical Director may be delegated such responsibilities as approval authority for grants and contracts protocols and protocol amendments documents and tools supporting product pricing reimbursement informed consent documents travel authorizations expense reports and other documents related to the work of the group.
The Medical Director participates in strategic planning for and oversight of the clinical research and medical support activities of the Directors area of responsibility. The Medical Director will also interact with external consultants opinion leaders and worldwide regulatory agencies and will provide oversight for responding to medical and regulatory questions and requests related to products. The Medical Director helps to ensure that the groups activities are clearly aligned with the local brand teams and corresponding Exploratory Program Medicine (EPM) and Global Brand Development (GBD) teams. The Medical Directors group plays a role in several stages of drug development with a primary focus on late-phase development product launch and this role the Medical Director maintains close contact with relevant local and global clinical research management marketing management Brand Teams and corporate teams. The Medical Director serves as the lead physician for medical input into marketing strategy and has oversight (e.g. responsibility for the medical review and approval of promotional materials). The Medical Director maintains the ongoing responsibilities of a Clinical Research Physician for product support and clinical research in his/her area adjusted and balanced to level and extent as appropriate to correspond to the needs of the area and role. The Medical Director is aware of and ensures that all activities of the medical team are in compliance with current local and international regulations laws guidances (e.g. FDA ICH CPMPetc.) Good Clinical Practices (GCPs) company standards Lilly policies and procedures and the Principles of Medical Research.
KEY OBJECTIVES/DELIVERABLES:
Provides leadership and supervision for the staff within Lilly Diabetes US Medical Affairs.
Oversees clinical planning budgeting and execution.
Provides medical expertise.
Ensures timely dissemination and exchange of scientific data.
Provides regulatory business and customer support (pre and post launch).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy.
Must be board certified in Endocrinology and Metabolism or have completed the comparable level of post-medical school clinical training relevant to the United States.
Experience in clinical research.
Experience in or demonstrated evidence for the capacity to lead manage and develop groups of professionals.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS/PREFERENCES:
Understanding of the local area/regions medical marketplace.
Evidence for or demonstrated administrative skills.
Excellent communication interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Fluent in English verbal and written communication.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
Ability to travel away from the office to the degree appropriate to support the business of the area or team.
