JOB TITLE: Bus Attendant
EXEMPT: No
GRADE: 106
LOCATION: Transportation
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9-Month
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
SUMMARY: The job of Bus Attendant is done for the purpose(s) of providing for the safety and welfare of students during non-classroom activities; communicating observations and incidents that may impact students development or general well-being to other school personnel; and providing appropriate emergency care as may be necessary.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Social Security Card
- Proof of immunity to Measles and German Measles
- Valid picture ID
- Fingerprint/background clearance (upon employment)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma GED or equivalent
- Job-related experience
Such alternatives to the above required & preferred qualifications as the Superintendent/Designee may find appropriate and acceptable
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administers first-aid for the purpose of providing immediate emergency care
- Assists bus driver as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Assists students with personal care requirements for the purpose of addressing need or referral
- Monitors students on and/or around the buses for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students
- Prepares reports (e.g. incident reports etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and providing reference for follow-up actions
- Reports observations and incidents (e.g. discipline accidents inappropriate social behavior violations of campus rules etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers and/or administration
- Secures students and/or equipment (e.g. wheelchairs etc.) with restraints and/or tie downs for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee
SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Skills are required to perform multiple non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices.
Knowledge is required to perform basic math read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step oral and written instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: pertinent codes policies regulation and/or laws.
Ability is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with specific job-related data; and utilize a variety of job-related working with others independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; establishing and maintaining effective relationships with students; being attentive to detail and adhering to safely practices.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading guiding and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobs functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the Organizations services.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and some fine-finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting 30% walking and 10% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
