This role is part of Blue Origin Operations which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain Test Operations Safety Quality and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.This is an entry mid or senior level Pipe & GTAW (TIG) Welder position supporting a new advanced hardware program at Blue Origin. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced welders and manufacturing engineers to perform manual GTAW welding operations on aerospace-grade materials under direct supervision. This is a hands-on learn-by-doing role in an early-phase manufacturing environment you will develop your welding skills on hardware while building the foundational knowledge needed to advance as a welder.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Performing manual GTAW (TIG) welding operations on aerospace components under the direction of senior welders following approved weld procedure specifications (WPS) and detailed work instructions
Preparing weld joints cleaning fitting tacking and positioning parts in fixtures and tooling per engineering drawings and process documentation
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings blueprints weld symbols and technical work instructions to understand joint configurations material types and acceptance criteria
Performing visual self-inspection of completed welds against workmanship standards; identifying and reporting defects such as porosity undercut lack of fusion or excessive reinforcement to the lead welder or quality inspector
Setting up and maintaining GTAW welding equipment selecting correct filler wire tungsten electrodes shielding gas and machine parameters per the applicable WPS
Using hand tools and precision measuring equipment calipers fillet gages weld inspection gages and tape measures to verify fit-up dimensions and weld profiles
Maintaining a clean organized and safe work area; adhering to all PPE requirements safety protocols welding ventilation standards and housekeeping practices
Assisting senior welders with complex weld assemblies positioning parts purging back-side shielding gas monitoring interpass temperatures and handling post-weld operations such as grinding and blending
Participating in weld practice qualification testing and skills development activities to expand position and material certifications
Supporting material handling and shop operations moving weldments staging parts at work cells and assisting with fixture setup and teardown
Minimum Qualifications:
Professional-level welding experience in an industrial construction or fabrication environment
Hands-on pipe and tube welding experience (carbon steel and/or stainless; thin-wall experience acceptable)
Experience performing welds on components subject to pressure loads (e.g. refineries power plants steam systems process piping)
Demonstrated experience with NDT-quality welds including work that has been inspected by methods such as:
X-ray / radiographic testing (RT)
Ultrasonic testing (UT) including phased array (PAUT) or automated UT (AUT) or similar advanced NDT
Ability to read and interpret welding drawings/blueprints isometrics and weld symbols
Experience working to welding codes/standards (e.g. ASME AWS or equivalent) and passing code-quality weld tests
Familiarity with basic inspection and measuring tools (e.g. calipers micrometers tape measures squares) to verify fit-up and finished work
Proven track record of working safely in high-consequence environments (e.g. refineries power plants industrial facilities)
Ability to work in a shop environment including standing for extended periods lifting materials and working in various positions (overhead vertical confined areas as needed)
U.S. person status as required by applicable regulations (U.S. citizen U.S. national U.S. permanent resident or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum)
Preferred Qualifications:
Pipe fitting experience including layout fit-up and alignment of pipe/tube systems prior to welding
Experience in construction or heavy industrial settings such as refineries power plants paper mills or similar facilities
Prior experience performing welds regularly subjected to NDT including:
X-ray / RT
Phased array UT (PAUT) or automated UT (AUT)
Liquid penetrant (PT) including experience with multiple PT techniques
Experience with codes such as B31.1 or D17.1 or other aerospace/pressure piping codes
Background in tube welding and thin-wall components in high-pressure or safety-critical applications
Overhead crane rigging or forklift experience in a shop or construction environment
Formal welding education or apprenticeship (technical school union apprenticeship or equivalent)
Experience in a high-scrutiny safety- or mission-critical industry (e.g. aerospace nuclear or similar)
