The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth community involvement and leadership.â Our full service health and fitness centres across the Greater Toronto Area provide a variety of health fitness recreation and community programsâ to thousands of members including children youth and adults who represent the diversity of Greater Toronto and its communities.

In these roles you will:

Karate Instructor Responsibilities:

  • Instruct participants in the YMCA Karate Program.
  • Develop and implement sequential weekly lesson plans based on the YMCA program syllabus.
  • Assist the Lead Instructor withGradings.
  • Recognize participant learning styles and deliver content accordingly.
  • Coach and develop participants for success.
  • Communicate (verbally and in writing) each childs progress to parents and Supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date weekly progress sheets and records for participants.
  • Take attendance ensuring participants are signed into and out of the program.
  • Take down equipment as required simultaneously checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (report immediately all malfunctions and remove the damaged equipment immediately from circulation).
  • Build relationships with members and seek opportunities to share the YMCA story and educate members and guests about the YMCA as a Charity.
  • Ensure qualifications and certifications as required by the YMCA and regulatory standards are current at all times.
  • Actively participate in scheduled programs meetings and special events.
  • Collaborate with individual program members program volunteers and YMCA program staff assisting and encouraging program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

                              Instructor Child and Youth Program Sports Responsibilities:

                              • Set up and take down recreational program and other equipment asrequired check that equipment is safe and in good repair (reportingimmediatelyall malfunctions and remove damaged equipmentimmediatelyfrom circulation).
                              • Participate actively in scheduled programs meetings andspecial events.
                              • Assistand encourage program members to access additionalappropriate programsoffered at this location in collaboration with individual program members program volunteers and YMCA program staff.
                              • Perform other duties as assigned.

                                                                      You bring:

                                                                      Canada Summer Jobs Criteria:

                                                                      • Be between 16 to 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
                                                                      • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
                                                                      • It is a funding requirement of this position that candidates must be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment

                                                                      Karate Instructor Qualifications:

                                                                      • Current Standard First Aid & CPR level C or Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C & AEDis an asset
                                                                      • Minimum 1 year of active Karate training
                                                                      • Experience teaching Youth Leadership an asset

                                                                                  Instructor Child and Youth Program Sports Qualifications:

                                                                                  • Diploma or degree in field related to working with children or youthor equivalent experience
                                                                                  • Current certifications in the following Lifesaving Society awards: Standard First Aid & CPR level C or Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C & AEDis an asset
                                                                                  • Current NCCP Basketball Coaching certification (Learn to Train level)
                                                                                  • Minimum 1-yearpreviousexperience Instructing Children and Teens in Basketball
                                                                                  • Good theoretical and practical knowledge of various stages of child and youth development throughpreviousrelated experience and continuing professional development
                                                                                  • Ability to encourage and motivate members and volunteers and acknowledge and appreciate achievements and contributions
                                                                                  • Evidence continuing professional development in working with children and youth

                                                                                                                              General Qualifications:

                                                                                                                                • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability toestablishrapport and excellent communication with membersstaffand volunteers
                                                                                                                                • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
                                                                                                                                • Flexibilityregardingschedule including dayseveningsand weekends
                                                                                                                                • Commitment to diversity equity inclusion and building a sense of belonging
