POSITION SUMMARY & PURPOSE


The Lead Cleaning Custodian is responsible for the day-to-day cleaning and custodian tasks of the buildings to which they are assigned. This is a high-profile position that requires the candidate to be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management teaching and support staff on a daily basis. This role partners with others in support of a school-wide culture of respect achievement and excellence. This position is for a critical thinker and innovative problem solver who can work independently and effectively multi-task.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises Cleaning staff
  • Monitors and/or Reports on all areas to ensure scheduled cleanings and other tasks are performed
  • Inspects quality and quantity of supplies and equipment
  • Collaborates with the team to identify ways to improve department effectiveness; implements viable ideas
  • Evaluates custodial staff performance
  • Works with Operations Director to set schedules and cleaning priorities
  • Designates tasks and assignments to Brookside Charter School Custodian(s) as needed
  • Regular and dependable attendance


Operations and Facilities

  • Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs routine maintenance activities.
  • Performs heavy cleaning duties.
  • Sweeps mops scrubs or vacuums floors.
  • Gathers and empties trash.
  • Scrubs sanitizes and supplies restroom facilities.
  • Dusts furniture walls and equipment.
  • Cleans windows mirrors and partitions with soap and other cleansers.
  • Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning according to instructions.
  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
  • Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
  • Manages inventory of cleaning supplies.
  • Drives vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work including industrial trucks vans or industrial vacuum cleaners.
  • Notifies managers regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.

Custodian Qualifications/Skills

  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures
  • Ability to stand walk and bend for many hours
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time
  • Experience with using cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaners floor buffers and cleaning solutions
  • Background in handling mixing and using cleaning chemicals
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to lift heavy objects climb ladders and work at particular heights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

*All requirements listed below are required unless otherwise designated as preferred.


Education and Certifications

  • Entry level

Experience

  • 3 years experience in custodial service

Skills and Traits

  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Highly detail-focused and results-oriented
  • Self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with multiple constituencies including parents staff and students
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds at least 20% of the time
  • Team-player attitude and strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent organizational planning and implementation skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting 30% walking and 40% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds at least 20% of the time
  • This position may require remaining stationary and/or moving for intermittent periods as well as moderate dexterity in operating standard office equipment (e.g. computer printer copier).
  • This position requires individuals with a range of visual acuity as well as the ability to communicate with others.
