Principal Clinical Engineer
Location: Bon Secours Hospital Dublin Glasnevin Dublin
1 Year Fixed Term Contract
Bon Secours Hospital Dublin is currently seeking applications for the position of Principal Clinical Engineer to join our Facilities and Clinical Engineering team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Clinical Engineering professional to play a key leadership role within a leading private healthcare environment supporting the delivery of safe effective and innovative patient care through the management of medical technology and clinical engineering services.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe reliable and efficient operation of electro-medical equipment throughout the hospital. Working closely with clinical technical operational and IT teams the Principal Clinical Engineer will support the delivery of high-quality patient care through effective equipment management compliance maintenance programmes and service development initiatives.
The role also involves contributing to hospital accreditation standards equipment procurement and commissioning contractor management risk management policy development and strategic planning for clinical technology services.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support the maintenance and performance of electro-medical equipment across the hospital
- Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules and safety programmes
- Maintain departmental asset registers risk registers and equipment records
- Support compliance with HPRA HSE JCI JAG ISO INAB and other regulatory standards
- Advise on the selection specification commissioning and lifecycle management of medical equipment
- Work collaboratively with IT teams regarding integrated clinical systems and connected medical devices
- Support clinical staff in the safe and effective use of medical equipment and technology
- Manage contractor performance relating to clinical engineering services
- Maintain departmental policies procedures and documentation
- Assist with budgeting capital equipment planning and cost-effectiveness reviews
- Participate in hospital committees and quality improvement initiatives as required
- Support training and education programmes for clinical and technical staff
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Infection Prevention standards
- Participate in on-call duties as required
Essential Criteria
- A recognised qualification at NFQ Level 7 or higher in one of the following disciplines:
- Biomedical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering
- Applied Physics
- Instrumentation or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of medical equipment management maintenance and safety standards
- Excellent communication organisational and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks effectively
- Strong leadership and teamworking skills
- Excellent IT skills and willingness to develop new technical competencies
Desirable Criteria
- Experience supporting healthcare accreditation programmes
- Experience with MGPS systems
- Experience managing medical device risks and compliance programmes
- Financial and budget management experience
- Experience working with integrated medical device and IT systems
