Job Summary: The World Language Teacher is responsible for developing students proficiency in listening speaking reading and writing in the target language in grades 912. Instruction is designed to align with students varying abilities and emphasizes meaningful communication cultural understanding and real-world application of language skills. The teacher fosters a student-centered engaging and intellectually stimulating classroom environment where both teacher and students communicate purposefully in the target language as listeners speakers readers writers and viewers.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a strong depth of knowledge and proficiency in the target language of instruction
- Exhibit thorough understanding of ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines K12 Performance Descriptors Can-Do Statements and the three modes of communication (interpretive interpersonal and presentational)Descriptors Can Do Statements and three (3) Modes of Communication.
- Prepare and implement ACTFL standards based well-organized curricula in which students are engaged in relevant thoughtful challenging work.
- Emphasize all four components of learning a language equally-speaking reading listening and writing.
- Naturally embed cultural understanding into all classroom activities.
- Differentiate lessons units assessments etc. based on the needs of each student.
- Establish a learning environment of serious scholarship and high expectations that supports students interests talents and needs.
- Employ techniques that stimulate critical (or divergent) thinking and problem solving.
- Use a variety of current technologies to enhance instruction and to advance students technological literacy.
- Demonstrate a willingness and ability to model information communication technology and media literacy for students colleagues parents and community.
- Demonstrate a willingness and ability to continuously develop and evolve new skills and support colleagues in the development of their skills.
- Use various methods of assessment; uses assessment information to plan instruction
- Define communicates and upholds acceptable standards of student behavior and develops open communication mutual respect and rapport with students.
- Communicate effectively with all constituents.
- Fulfill time commitments and contribute to department sponsored community/enrichment activities.
- Contribute to a positive collegial environment; collaborates with colleagues.
- Strengthen skills and knowledge through reflection feedback workshops seminars and collegial sharing.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality with regard to all aspects of performance and attendance.
- Establish a professional rapport with students and with staff that has their respect. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students parents and school personnel.
- Serve as a role model for students dressing professionally demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning accepting responsibility and demonstrating pride in the education profession.
- Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as requested by the principal and department head
- Communicate with the principal and department head regularly about the needs successes and general operation of the program.
- Use effective presentation skills when addressing students staff parents and the community including appropriate vocabulary and examples clear and legible visuals and articulate and audible speech.
- Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications as assigned by the principal.
- Maintain consistent communication with parents and guardians seeking their partnership to support student success and sharing both positive updates as well as concerns related to behavior academics and attendance
- Keep families informed about relevant programs policies procedures and available resources that support student learning and well-being
- Schedule and facilitate parent/student conferences as needed to address academic progress attendance behavior or other concerns
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years successful experience in teaching is preferred.
- Education:
- Bachelors Degree required.
- Certification & Licensing:
- Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and or certifications.
