Maritime Advisor Northern Europe

Unit Role:

The Royal Navy Senior Advisor to Northern Europe (RNSANE) delivers senior maritime advice representation and strategic liaison on behalf of the Royal Navy throughout the Northern Europe region and across the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) framework nations

Position Role:

RNSANE is the Royal Navys senior representative and principal naval adviser for Northern Europe. The role has a specific remit to advance UK and allied objectives through the JEF framework nations. The post provides strategic maritime leadership influence and expert advice to support deterrence assurance and crisis response alongside JEF partners. This includes the development and sustainment of productive seniorlevel relationships across the region enabling the effective delivery of maritime and wider HMG strategic messaging. The RNSANE advises the First Sea Lord and crossgovernment partners on maritime and security matters relating to Northern Europe informing policy formulation strategic decisionmaking and the ongoing development of the JEF.

Sustain access to trust with and influence among JEF decisionmakers strengthening the credibility and visibility of maritime deterrence across Northern Europe.

Act as the senior maritime interlocutor enabling habitual relationships that underpin JEF effectiveness.

Engage across the Naval Service UK MOD and crossWhitehall (including the Cabinet Office and FCO) to understand HMG policy as it relates to Northern Europe and JEF nations.

Provide strategic insight and advice on the Northern European maritime security environment including JEF partners capabilities priorities and constraints.

Deliver credible and authoritative leadership in multinational and politically sensitive environments recognised by peers as a senior leader of judgement and integrity.

Represent the Royal Navy and JEF maritime interests during flaglevel bilateral and multilateral engagements.

Support JEFs role as a politicalmilitary bridge able to act at pace where formal NATO mechanisms are not optimised for speed.

Reinforce aligned maritime messaging through seniorlevel engagement reassurance activity and persistent presence.

Contribute to UK security economic and commercial advantage through Defence engagement and sales activity.

Within existing Defence and HMG policy communicate HMG intent policy and objectives clearly and consistently to JEF partners.

Pre Appt/Deployment Trg: To conduct internal and external visits across the UK and European countries in preparation for the role

Domestic Considerations: SFA in London area / SSSA. Convenient for MOD and Heathrow/Gatwick.
