The Reynoldsburg City Schools Color Guard Instructor is responsible for the instruction choreography and supervision of the Color Guard program within the Marching Band and Winterguard seasons. This role focuses on developing student technique in dance and equipment (flags rifles sabres) while ensuring a safe disciplined and artistically excellent performance environment that aligns with the districts extracurricular goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid State of Ohio Pupil Activity Permit (must maintain current CPR First Aid Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest certifications).
- Satisfactory results of state and federal (BCI/FBI) background checks.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience choreographing for competitive marching band or winter guard circuits (e.g. OMEA MEPA WGI).
- Strong background in dance and equipment technique.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties responsibilities skills abilities and other characteristics. Instructional & Artistic Leadership
- Collaborate with the Band Director to select design and rehearse performance pieces that integrate with the marching band show.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum for technique in flag rifle and sabre as well as dance and movement.
Program Operations
- Coordinate the booking of facilities and transportation for competitions and performances in alignment with district policy.
- Maintain accurate inventory of silks poles uniforms and equipment; coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
- Attend occasional booster meetings to coordinate equipment travel and fundraising needs.
Student Supervision & Compliance
- Maintain direct supervision and responsibility for students during all rehearsals performances and travel.
- Ensure all program and district policies including student code of conduct and safety protocols are strictly adhered to.
- Conduct a minimum of two after-school rehearsals per week and attend all scheduled performances (minimum 6) and adjudicated events (minimum 3).
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: Modern color guard trends and OMEA/WGI adjudication standards; Ohio school safety protocols and Pupil Activity Permit requirements.
Skilled in: Choreography design; equipment technique (flag/weapon); effective group rehearsal management; interpersonal communication.
Ability to: Work flexible hours including evenings and weekends; motivate diverse groups of students; maintain professional boundaries and serve as a positive role model.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. Working Conditions The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
Driving Requirement This position may require driving to various school sites or events.
