The Opportunity

WSDOT is seeking an ITS & Signals Supervisor to lead a skilled team responsible for maintaining and operating critical transportation technology systems across the Olympic this role you will guide the work that keeps travelers informed traffic moving safely and infrastructure functioning reliablyfrom traffic signals and highway illumination to advanced Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).


Based out of Lacey WA this position provides leadership across multiple locations and plays a key role in shaping system performance workforce development and operational priorities. Youll collaborate with engineers contractors and regional partners while fostering a culture rooted in safety inclusion and continuous improvement. What to Expect

This position includes on-call responsibilities standby rotations and emergency response including the ability to report to duty within 60 minutes as needed. Work includes both office and field environments often in varying weather and traffic conditions with travel between worksites.


Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role you will:

  • Lead and support ITS crews in the maintenance repair and installation of communication electronic and electrical systems including traffic signals fiber networks and highway illumination.
  • Plan assign and prioritize work; coordinate schedules; and ensure timely and high-quality completion of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Supervise coach and develop employees through performance management training and career development support.
  • Respond to emergencies by dispatching crews coordinating repairs and making real-time operational decisions including after-hours callouts.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs and evaluate system performance to identify improvements or upgrades.
  • Manage tools equipment inventory and purchasing decisions to support efficient operations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project teams to review plans provide field insights and support successful project delivery.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal partners external agencies contractors and the public to address transportation system needs.


Qualifications

  • Safety Focus: Promotes and applies safety standards policies and practices in all work activities and environments.
  • Technical Interpretation: Interprets electrical/electronic schematics construction plans and technical documents to guide work and decision-making.
  • Digital Proficiency: Uses computer systems and software (e.g. Microsoft Office virtual meeting tools and databases) to manage work and communicate effectively.
  • Operational Knowledge: Applies understanding of construction practices equipment operations and maintenance activities in transportation environments.
  • Growth Mindset: Actively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growth.
  • Service-Oriented: Takes action to meet the needs of others.

The following qualifications are also required:

  • Licensing: Possession of a valid unrestricted Class B CDL without airbrake restrictions to legally operate vehicles in Washington State OR the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Work at heights up to 100 feet.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also demonstrate:

  • Advanced Systems Knowledge: Demonstrates in-depth understanding of ITS signal illumination and electrical systems used in transportation environments.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Plans monitors and manages budgets resources and program needs effectively.
