TheProvisional FellowCardiothoracicSurgerypositionisapartofthecardiothoracicandtransplantprogram atSt VincentsHospitalSydneyDarlinghurst.ThisunitsuppliesadultcardiothoracicsurgicalservicesfortheSouth Easternand Illawarra Regionandalsoastatewide service forNSW being anareaofquaternary referral for complex cardiothoracic surgery.
TheunitalsoistheHeartandLungTransplant UnitforNSWandalsoservicespatients frominterstate.St VincentsHospitalisatertiaryHospitalandtheCardiothoracicUnitandTransplantProgram atStVincents Hospital has a National and International reputation.
TheProvisionalFellowCardiothoracicSurgerywillbeunderlevel3supervisionofSeniorMedicalstaffand the position will involve:
Independentlyperformingsimpletocomplexcardiacsurgeries
VATSandopenlungprocedures
Involvement inallaspectsofsurgicalmanagementofheart/lungtransplantation.
PreandpostoperativecareofCardiacandthoracicsurgicalpatients.
Attendingpreandpostoperativeclinics.
AttendMDTmeetingswhichdiscusspatientsrequiringthoracicorgantransplantationpatientswith complex coronary andvalvular heart disease decision making invarious lungpathologies.
Attendingandpresentinginmortalityandmorbiditymeetings.
ResearchandQualityimprovement:
ParticipationintheDepartmentsresearchprojects.
ParticipationintheQualityimprovementactivitiesofthedepartment
Theaimofthisposition istoenable theIMGtosuccessfullycomplete 12monthsofsupervised practice with learning goals set byRACSand clear fellowship examinations duringthis period.
