Job Summary
Reporting to theHealth and SafetyDirectortheHealth and SafetyCoordinator(Canada Summer Job) willsupportthemaintenance and development of our internal health and safety program working to improvethe health and safety ofworkers acrossallour locations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supportingthe Health and SafetyDirectorwiththe maintenance ofourhealth and safety program
- Fosteringa positive occupational health and safety culture within the organization:
- Be an ambassador for safety leading by example
- Creatingand sharingengaging safetypresentations/meetings/bulletins/topics
- Encouragingsafetydialogue/communication
- Addressingsafety questions and concerns
- Supportingwithsiteinspectionsidentifyinghazards and recommending corrective actions
- Reviewing and respondingpromptlyto incidents working with the Health and SafetyDirectorto investigate and implement preventative measures
- Maintaining and updating safety software as needed: staff profiles/permissions training records incidents inspections and statistics
- Conducting research and gathering informationas needed
- Assistingwithimplementingnewhealth and safety initiatives
- Assistingwith health and safety manual updates as needed
- Assistingwith safety policy and procedure development as needed
- Assistingwith safety policy and procedure reviews and updatesas needed
- Assistingwith formal hazard assessments as needed
- Assistingwithfire andemergency response plansas needed
- Ensuringappropriate PPEis availableacross the organizationasrequired
- Training:
- Leadingsafety orientations in-person and online
- Providingleader trainingon safety requirements and responsibilities
- Assistingwith the development of internal training modules/presentations
- Coordinatinginternal andexternalsafety trainingas needed
- Providingongoing safety guidance and support
- Establishing coordinating ormaintaininghealth and safety committees across AB BC and SK:
- Ensuringcommitteesare in compliance withprovincial legislation
- Leadingattending orsupportingonline health and safety committee meetings
- Recruitingnewcommittee members as needed
- Schedulingcommittee meetings
- Preparing meeting agendas
- Recordingcommittee meeting minutes
- Working with leaders toensure complianceforeach siteby:
- Completing/reviewing/updatingformal site-specific hazard assessments
- Completing/reviewing/updating site-specificemergencyresponseprocedures
- Confirmingemergencyresponse drills are being conducted asrequired
- Establishing ormaintaininghealth and safety committee representation
- Completing site inspections asrequired
- Completingtimelyincident investigations
- Administrative support:
- Data entry and other clerical tasks
- Maintaining andorganizing or updatingfilesanddatabases
- Responding to emails and other inquiries
- Coordinating meetings and events
- Preparing correspondence documents spreadsheets reports and presentations
- Scheduling meetings appointments and travel arrangements
- Conducting research and gathering information
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Working towards professional safety designationis considered an asset
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)experienceisconsidered an asset
- Knowledge/experience withOccupational Health and Safetylegislation(AB BC&SK)is considered an asset
- Enthusiastic about health and safety
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong public speaking/presenting skills
- Strong organization skills attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Proficient computer skills and thorough understanding of the Microsoft Office suite
- Able to pick up and implement new skills quickly and adapt to change
- Self-motivated team playerwhois able towork independently
- Positive and professional work ethics whichinclude:CollaborationAccountability Respect and Excellence
- Mustbe able to relate well with people from diverse backgrounds
- Interest in Human Serviceschange-making and working with a vulnerable population considered an asset
