Project Overview
This role supports an enterprise-level Applications Management portfolio within a large highly regulated public sector environment. The focus is on maintaining and enhancing both legacy and modern applications ensuring reliable secure and high-quality service delivery aligned with organizational objectives.
Position Summary
Reporting to senior leadership within Application Management & Data Services the Application Analyst acts as a key liaison between business stakeholders operations teams and technical delivery groups.
This role is responsible for ensuring application stability improving service delivery processes and supporting the transition to standardized IT Service Management (ITSM) practices. The ideal candidate will combine strong functional expertise with excellent communication skills to translate business requirements into technical solutions while supporting vendor performance and data governance.
Key Responsibilities
Service Management & ITSM
- Lead transition from ad-hoc support processes to a unified ITSM framework (e.g. ServiceNow Jira)
- Coordinate and manage major incidents impacting business operations
- Support change and release management to ensure minimal disruption
Application Support & Business Analysis
- Gather and document requirements from business users and stakeholders
- Act as liaison between business teams and technical teams
- Monitor vendor and internal team performance against SLAs
- Maintain knowledge base including documentation and user guides
Data Governance & Platform Support
- Ensure compliance with security privacy and regulatory requirements
- Support data platforms (e.g. Snowflake) at a functional level
- Oversee data access reporting and dashboard integrity
- Manage transitions between environments (Dev Test Prod) and cloud/on-prem systems
Process Improvement & Risk Management
- Identify and recommend process improvements for application workflows
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning
- Prepare reports and analytics for leadership decision-making
Work Environment & Equipment
- Work is 100% onsite in Edmonton AB
- Standard working hours: 08:15 16:30 MST (MonFri)
- Equipment office space and supplies will be provided
- All work must be performed within Canada due to security requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
Education & Experience (one of the following):
- Degree in IT (or related) 3 years Application Analyst experience
- Diploma in IT (or related) 5 years experience
- Certificate in IT (or related) 6 years experience
- OR 7 years relevant experience
Core Skills & Experience:
- Experience in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) planning and monitoring (1 year)
- Experience with ITSM tools (ServiceNow Jira or similar) 4 years
- Experience in Agile/Scrum environments 2 years
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Strong problem-solving and ability to work independently or in teams
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience in regulated industries (Government Healthcare Legal Finance)
- Basic data and cloud knowledge
- Experience with data warehouses and reporting tools
- Familiarity with ITSM processes workflows and service delivery improvements
