Position Summary
TheVice PresidentPeopleand Cultureservesas the senior leader responsible for shaping and executing the organizationspeople strategyand overseeingallhuman resourcesfunctions. This roleserves as a strategic leader within the organization andoversees itstalent acquisitionhuman capital management and developmentemployeeexperience andengagementandhuman resourcescomplianceensuring alignmentof these functionswithAUsmission values andlongtermgoals. The Vice President ofPeopleand Cultureis a key member of theseniorteam and acritical source of support to staff at all levels of the organization. Theysupervise the Human Resources and Finance Associate andreport to the Chief Operating Officer.The position is based in Washington DCandrequiresworkingfrom theAUoffice at least once per week.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of a comprehensivepeople strategythat supports organizational growth talent developmentandthe implementation ofcore organizational values.
- Serve as a trusted advisor tosenior leadership on ensuring internal processes are well-planned and effectively communicated.
- Serve as a thought leader for organizational equityand accessibility ensuring that equityand accessibilityconsiderations are embedded into all organizational policies and practices.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures related to human resource functions as needed.
Talent Acquisition
- Oversee recruitment strategies to attractmissionalignedhighperformingstaff.
- Developandoversee the implementation ofstrategies to attract hire andretaina diverse workforce.
- Supporthiring managers as needed in the recruitment andselectionof top talent.
Human Capital Managementand Development
- Recommend learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal
development opportunities for employees.
- Lead the performance review processincluding annual reviews growth development plans and feedback mechanisms with clear deliverables and timelines.
- Provide support onconflict resolution coaching and performance improvement processes.
- Own the organizations goal-setting process partnering with leadership to cascade; ensureindividualgoal-settingis meaningful and tied todepartment and organizational goals.
- Support supervisors in resolvingemployee relations issues ensuring consistency and equity in administering policies and procedures.
Employee Experienceand Engagement
- Implement and support data-driven approaches to measure and improve employee engagement job satisfaction organizational culture enhancement strategies and tactics and best practices for retention.
- Oversee employee engagement programming (i.e.staff retreats virtual gatherings) that foster a sense of belonging well-being and continuous learning.
- Drivethe organizationsinitiatives relatedto diversity equity inclusion and accessibilityensuringcontinuous learning and alignment between these principles and employee experience.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal state and local employment laws nonprofit regulations and internal policies.
- Maintainaccuratehuman resourcessystems andensuretimelyreporting.
- Respond to data and information requests from AUs employee union and ensurethatallhuman resourcesprocesses align with the guidelines outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Maintain knowledge of employment law and human resourcesbest practices;lead annual update oftheEmployee Handbook.

- Bachelors degree or equivalent and12 years ofrelatedexperience ideally including nonprofit ormissiondrivenenvironments.
- SHRM or comparable HR certification.
- Commitmentto advancingthe separation of religion and government.
- Demonstrated experience navigatingsensitive organizational issueswith strong ethical judgment discretion and the ability tomaintainconfidentiality.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
This is a hybrid position that primarily involves working from a home office and/or professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones and video conferencing tools. It requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods communicate effectively and occasionally move about within the workspace.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is$175650-$208575.This stated range includes a 5% locality pay adjustment for the Washington DC metropolitan area. The successful candidates placement within that range will be consistent withAUs compensation framework which is based on role placement and years of related experience.
