Job Summary
General Description:
The Assistant Controller plays a key role in the daily accounting financial reporting budgeting and analysis activities for Summit Agricultural Groups farming operations and Pork and Land Investment Funds. This role partners closely with operations managers the Controller and senior leadership to deliver timely accurate financial information and insight that support business decisions across a dynamic evolving organizatiEssential Job Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities across the team ensuring timely and accurate transaction processing reconciliations and month-end close.
- Assist with the annual budgeting process including the financial models and frameworks used to develop and approve budgets across operating segments.
- Maintain and update operational and financial forecast models throughout the year.
- Lead monthly variance analysis reviews with operations managers to identify drivers of performance and inform corrective action and solutions to management.
- Prepare quarterly Board reporting decks summarizing financial results KPIs and key business developments.
- Review quarterly Fund (Pork and Land Fund investments) and partnership financial statements.
- Manage annual financial statement audits of the Funds including coordination with external auditors.
- Lead or contribute to special projects including: property tax analysis on farm buildings; spearheading Accountings role in IT data and AI initiatives in coordination with the IT/data team; setup and reporting of construction projects (budget vs. actual); and tax projects relating to real estate investments.
- Assist in maintaining accounting software and systems and coordinate with IT to manage appropriate user access for the accounting team.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- No direct reports at hire. The role is expected to take on direct reports as the individual grows into the position.
Education Experience and Other Qualification:
- Bachelors degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum 3 years of public accounting audit experience with financial reporting exposure.
- Strong analytical thinker; able to thrive in a constantly evolving dynamic business.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite (required)
- CPA license (preferred not required)
- Experience with a modern ERP system (preferred not required)
- Exposure to IT data or AI tools and platforms (preferred not required)
- Agricultural industry experience (preferred not required)
Work Environment:
- This position will be performed in an office setting with regular exposure to standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers etc.
Physicality Requirements:
- Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger handle or to feel objects stoop kneel talk or hear.
- The employee must have the ability to sit for long periods of time and maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- This is a full-time position with the expected days and hours to be Monday Friday.
- Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
- Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges.
Travel:
- No travel is expected for this position.
