Position Summary
The Boys Wrestling Coach is responsible for planning organizing and directing all aspects of the high school wrestling program. The coach will promote athlete development sportsmanship academic success and compliance with Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) regulations and district policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize and supervise all aspects of the wrestling program (varsity JV and/or freshman levels)
- Plan and conduct practices that develop athletes skills conditioning and teamwork
- Teach fundamental and advanced wrestling techniques strategies and rules
- Ensure student-athletes understand and demonstrate good sportsmanship and character
- Monitor and support academic progress of student-athletes
- Maintain discipline and a positive team environment
- Prepare athletes for competition including match preparation and strategy
- Supervise athletes during practices competitions travel and team activities
- Communicate effectively with athletes parents school staff and administration
- Adhere to all AIA rules and regulations district policies and safety guidelines
- Maintain accurate records (eligibility attendance equipment etc.)
- Coordinate equipment inventory care and ordering
- Assist with scheduling competitions and organizing events
- Promote the wrestling program and encourage student participation
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques rules and training methods
- Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes
- Effective communication and leadership skills
- Ability to maintain high standards of conduct and professionalism
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Commitment to student safety and well-being
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and administration
Qualifications
- Previous coaching and/or wrestling experience preferred
- Knowledge of Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) guidelines
- Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain)
- Completion of required district and AIA coaching certifications/training
- Demonstrated ability to work with high school students
Working Conditions
- Requires work after school hours evenings and weekends
- Travel required for competitions
- Physical activity required including demonstration of wrestling techniques
- Exposure to indoor athletic facilities
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated by the Athletic Director and/or Principal based on:
- Program organization and management
- Athlete development and conduct
- Compliance with policies and regulations
- Communication and professionalism
Terms of Employment
- Seasonal stipend position (per district salary schedule)
- Employment contingent upon budget participation levels and administrative approval
