Job Summary

PBSGC is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent that is willing to work in the Louisiana area and surrounding states as assigned.

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient management of civil construction projects to include all aspects of successful project completion. The Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent coordinates all site construction activities and supervises all field personnel as required to successfully complete the project on schedule and within budget. The Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent will report directly to Marine Construction Division Manager. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient management of marine construction projects to include engineering and layout leadership of personnel and management of assets including vessels barges equipment and materials.
  • Responsible for mobilization of crew equipment and products on assigned projects.
  • Responsible for assigned assets including vessels barges equipment and materials.
  • Position will interface in a manner that will build positive relationships with all personnel on construction projects contractors inspectors and the general public.
  • Order materials and schedules inspections as necessary throughout the process.
  • Understands the project plans and specifications
  • Promotes job site safety encourages safe work practices and rectifies job site hazards immediately. Ensures all PBSGC employees and contractors are adhering to PBSGCs safety culture.
  • Schedule & coordinate getting proper construction and right-away permits.
  • Schedule & coordinate project activities to safely deliver a profitable project.
  • Handle on-site paperwork and daily work reports.
  • Being onsite full-time and responsible for all field activities
  • Conduct performance evaluations of foremen general foremen and assistant superintendents.
  • Provide proactive and intentional leadership in developing the safety culture on the project site.
  • Coach mentor and train all personnel.
  • Develop leaders through active career sponsorship and provide the right responsibilities and work assignments to cultivate growth.
  • Support and encourage team members career learning and development.
  • Manage site work and logistics efficiently looking for ways to improve.
  • Ensure project compliance with all safety precautions and requirements. This will include but is not limited to weekly safety meetings onsite
  • Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition perform maintenance and prevention/loss report repairs to Construction Division Manager
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with working in a marine environment on the inland waterways and especially the Mississippi River is beneficial but not required.
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering Construction Engineering Technology or Construction Management is preferred but experience in lieu of a degree will be considered. Experienced candidates and with a varied background of construction will be considered
  • Civil construction management experience in addition to the above education and/or experience of at least five years is required.
  • Proficient knowledge Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook)
  • Knowledge of operating various equipment; i.e. Back Hoe Track Hoe Grader Dozer Loader etc.
  • Proficient in setting transferring and understanding grades.
  • Safe work experience and a commitment to safe leadership of personnel and safe work practice is a must.
  • Ability to read analyze and interpret technical documents contracts specifications soil reports and/or government regulations
  • Experienced in scheduling ordering field supervision quality control and production of all phases of civil construction.
  • Strong leadership communication problem solving initiative and teamwork skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and valid drivers license
  • Must be able to work in marine conditions including inclement weather.
  • Must be willing and able to travel as the job location requires to include consecutive weeks away from home.
  • Must complete on-boarding physical and exertion function test with physical therapist after acceptance of offer to evaluate ability to meet the physical essential functions of the position.
  • Must be comfortable working over and adjacent to water and willingness to participate in water rescue.
