Job Summary

Description

This position uses robotic welding cells MIG/TIG welding and common metal working hand tools to completely sub-assemble (tack) and weld fuel tank related components from formed sheet metal parts tubing and fittings. This position encompasses responsibilities with robot welding machines and Metal Prep Weld. Generally not performed by the Robot Operator but they need to know how to load and unload parts into the robot fixturing when the Robot Programmers cant keep up with this task. Typically fuel system parts are made of aluminum-coated steel metals but may include P&O stainless steel and aluminum materials. The finished parts will be ready for final testing and washing in preparation for powder coating.



Qualifications

Manually welds steel fuel system parts utilizing MIG short circuit TIG and pulsed spray transfer mode welding processes. Uses materials that are predominately aluminum coated steel metals but may include P&O stainless steel and aluminum materials. Reads and interprets mechanical drawings; performs first article quality control checks. Sets up adjusts and maintains appropriate welding parameters on an assigned welding machine(s). Welds with a steady hand sufficient speed and quality in order to meet TFI production standards and quality standards for cosmetic and non-cosmetic products. Logs into the correct job or task on the MOM (Manufacturing Operations Management) software. Approves all prints related to the operation initiated or participated in by signing QC box on print. Conducts quality control on components as specified in the Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) for the part or operation that is currently engaged.

Inspects robot-welded products and utilizes TIG and MIG processes to repair any cosmetic or functional flaws. Uses stud-welding equipment to weld studs and test stud weld integrity. Pressure tests repairs any leaks with MIG or TIG processes and removes weld spatter as dictated by quality requirements. Cleans and changes tips nozzles and weld wire. Possesses knowledge on how to restart robot welder after minor problems such as a stuck wire a safety barrier violation etc. when the Robot Programmers cant keep up with this task from time to time. Monitors robot welder for process problems including but not limited to a lack of/incorrect gas wire feed problems and weld path issues. Communicates and cooperates with Robot Programmers to move weld path when indicated by welding robot results.
