Leicestershire County Council is seeking a motivated and compassionate SEND Self-Assessment and Review Officer to join our SEND Early Intervention Team. This is an exciting opportunity to support children young people and families at an early stage promoting resilience and positive outcomes through timely targeted interventions.

About the Role

You will work directly with children young people and their families to provide advice assessment and review support relating to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Using a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach you will help families access the right support at the right time preventing escalation to more intensive services.

Key responsibilities

  • Assessment and Reviews
    Undertake and manage the SEND self-assessments and eligibility assessments for early help and short breaks and lead timely annual reviews to ensure support remains appropriate and responsive to the needs of the families and young people supported.
  • Early intervention support
    Provide brief targeted interventions supporting families with behaviour routines emotional wellbeing and parenting strategies. This will be both face to face and via telephone contact
  • Advice and guidance
    Offer accurate evidence-based advice on SEND pathways services and benefits (including DLA/PIP) ensuring families can access appropriate support and self-referral options. Work closely with staff teams to provide professional advice and guidance including contributing to clinics and facilitating case discussions to support effective planning and decision-making for families.
  • Multi-agency working
    Build strong partnerships with schools health professionals family hubs social care providers and community organisations to coordinate effective support. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with providers to ensure high-quality coordinated services for children and families.
  • Recording and systems
    Maintain high-quality timely and accurate case records using systems such as Mosaic and Excel ensuring clear tracking of work undertaken and measurable outcomes for children and families supported. Contribute to effective data management reporting and service improvement.
  • Safeguarding and inclusion
    Work in line with safeguarding policies recognising and escalating concerns.
  • Service development
    Contribute to the ongoing development of SEND early intervention provision embedding best practice and improving outcomes for children and families.

An enhanced with barred list DBS check is required for this post.

About You

To apply for this post you must:

  • Level3qualificationinarelevantsubjecte.g. social care health or childcare OR substantial experience in providing direct support to families that clearly demonstrates the experience skills competencies and knowledge outlined below.
  • Experience working with children young people or families in a SEND education social care or health context and working with families experiencingdifficultiesinparentingor behaviour management .
  • Knowledge of SEND and the impact a SEND diagnosis will have on a young person and family.
  • Knowledge and awareness of issues which may have an impact on the lives of families suchasdomesticviolenceandabusemental healthdifficultiessubstancemisusepoverty housing
  • Experience of completing assessments develop plans and manage a varied caseload
  • Confident communicator with strong partnership working skills Experienceofworkinginamulti-agency environment
  • ProvenabilitytorecogniseChildProtection issues and Safeguarding practice and early help approaches
