Job Summary

The Illawarra Womens Trauma Recovery Centre (WTRC) is seeking a Domestic Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) Case Worker to provide specialist case management support to women recovering from DFSV.

Based at WTRC this role will support women through intake assessment and recommendations as well as the development implementation and review of individual case plans for women accessing the service.

About the Womens Trauma Recovery Centre:

The Illawarra Womens Trauma Recovery Centre (the Centre) is an Australian first community-led initiative codesigned with women with lived expertise professional experts and service providers to offer comprehensive and long-term support to women recovering from the trauma of domestic family and sexual violence (DFSV). Strongly aligned with local state and national priorities including The National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032 the Centre supports women to heal from trauma arising from domestic family and sexual violence and to improve the long-term health and psychosocial outcomes for women and families.

The Centre is a project of the Illawarra Womens Health Centre. Established in 1986 we are nationally accredited and provide a safe place for women to access specialised high-quality womens medical therapeutic and wellbeing services.

The Centre also offers various health and well-being workshops programs community-based group activities and support groups. Our services evolve in response to the needs of women and girls in the region shaped by evidence of effective practice and local state and national policy contexts. Our services and programs are provided at little or no cost to all women in the Illawarra.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role you will:

  • Manage a caseload of approximately 13 to 18 women depending on capacity complexity and level of support required.
  • Conduct intake assessments and provide recommendations regarding eligibility suitability and next steps.
  • Develop implement and review individual case plans in partnership with women impacted by domestic family and sexual violence.
  • Provide practical and emotional case management support including referral assistance risk assessment safety planning advocacy and support with Court-related matters where required.
  • Build trusted respectful and empowering relationships with clients supporting them to take ownership of their goals and recovery journey.
  • Work collaboratively with internal multidisciplinary professionals to support coordinated and holistic care.
  • Develop strong working relationships with external service providers and government agencies to support referral pathways and shared care arrangements.
  • Plan proactively for client transition and exit from case management including internal referrals or connection with external services and supports where needed.
  • Maintain accurate timely and confidential client records reports and documentation in line with the Centres policies procedures and legal obligations.
  • Contribute to internal policy development service planning and continuous improvement activities.
  • Participate in supervision reflective practice and other professional support spaces provided by WTRC.
  • Contribute to advocacy activities relating to domestic family and sexual violence womens mental health and trauma recovery in line with the Centres Advocacy Strategy.

Essential Criteria for the role:

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • A genuine interest in and commitment to Illawarra Womens Health Centres vision mission and values.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Work Social Work Welfare Counselling or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with women and children impacted by domestic family and sexual violence.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering flexible trauma-informed client-centred and culturally sensitive support.
  • Knowledge of trauma and violence-informed approaches including how these apply to casework and recovery-focused practice.
  • Experience developing implementing and reviewing individualised case plans in partnership with women impacted by DFSV.
  • The ability to manage difficult complex or sensitive situations with professionalism care and sound judgement.
  • Strong organisational skills including the ability to work independently plan and prioritise workload and use initiative.
  • Strong reflective practice including the capacity to engage in critical self-reflection in relation to race privilege and power.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to confidently engage with clients stakeholders service providers and government agencies.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A strong commitment to working in a way that upholds respect safety and the dignity of all people.

Desirable Criteria for the role:

  • Fluency in a community language other than English.
  • Experience working with people from diverse communities or lived experience of diversity including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LQBTQIA migrant culturally and linguistically diverse neurodivergent and people with a disability.
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary family domestic and sexual violence and the trauma impacts of gendered-based violence and abuse.
