Position Description

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is seeking an exemplary and highly qualified individual to fill the role of Director within the Detention Services Division (DSD). DSD manages all operations of the Clark County Detention Center which is a nationally accredited facility and the largest jail system in the state of Nevada. Definition
Provides leadership and direction for the administrative and operations-related functions of the Detention Records Bureau within the Detention Services Division with activities to include but not limited to booking releasing housing court services inmate programs switchboard calendaring warrants administrative packages public window data entry and document imaging.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This position is appointed by the Sheriff and is not subject to the competitive requirements of the Civil Services Rules of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Minimum Qualifications/Position-Specific Conditions

Best Candidates Will Have:

  • A Bachelors degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 6 years increasingly responsible experience with LVMPD ( 2 years in a managerial and/or supervisory capacity) or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Records management experience
  • Ability to callaborate effectively with external criminal justice stakeholders
  • Experience with a wide variety of law enforcement computer systems used by LVMPD
  • Experience preparing budget expenditures and reviewing draft budget items
  • Experience developing new policies or policy updates
  • Experience with team building
  • Experience handling conflict and handling employee disciplinary issues
  • Project management skills
  • Experience allocating resources
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to exemplify the Department values both on and off duty

Disciplinary and Performance Standards - For Internal Employees

Major Discipline
Candidates whose Personnel files include major discipline based on the purge date within three years from the closing date will be automatically disqualified.

Minor Discipline or Disciplinary Transfer
Candidates whose Personnel files includeminor discipline or a disciplinary transfer based on the purge date within one year from the closing date will be automatically disqualified.

Written Reprimand
Discipline resulting in a written reprimand will not result in disqualification at any stage.

Performance Standards
Candidates who have received a rating of does not meet standards on their most recent performance evaluation contained in the Personnel file will also be automatically disqualified during the screening process prior to the first test instrument.

Conditions of Employment

herethe following specific conditions of employment and physical conditions apply to this position.
  • Personal Appearance:While on duty and/or representing the Department uniformed or otherwise all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching affixing or displaying objects articles or jewelry on or through the nose tongue eyebrow or other exposed body part except the ears for females while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or gauging their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing and may not be covered by make-up or bandages. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination indecency extremist or supremacist philosophies lawlessness violence or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
  • Maintain a valid appropriate Nevada driver license.
  • Work any shift weekend and holidays.
  • For positions in CCDC and ancillary correctional facilities: Required within 14 days after initial hire date to undergo an annual tuberculosis testing / screening per NRS and every 12 months thereafter. Employees who are past positive testers are required to provide medical documentation of testing / treatment records.

The interview process consists of either one or two in-person interviews with executive and managerial staff held beginning the week of June 15 2026.

Additional Selection Processes

If you successfully complete the above selection process you will undergo a thorough background investigation including a polygraph exam. A polygraph examination can be stressful and may affect existing medical or psychological conditions or ongoing treatment. Candidates are encouraged to consult with their personal physicians to discuss whether the polygraph will affect a condition or treatment and then follow the guidance of their medical professional.


The background investigation takes approximately 90 to 120 days to complete. You must also meet the LVMPD Hiring Standards.
