The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of all Virginians through a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to serve as our Nutritionist Supervisor.

About the Position:
The Nutritionist Supervisor oversees all nutritional programs and supporting staff for the district. Key responsibilities include:
Providing overall leadership in planning implementing and delivering nutrition services across multiple program areas including Women Infants & Children (WIC) Maternal Child Health General Medical Family Planning BabyCare and Adolescent Health.
Supervising professional and support nutrition staff through observation consultation statistical review and evaluation of work activities.
Conducting nutritional assessments and client education as needed.
Developing and presenting workshops on nutrition principles.
Establishing and maintaining referral systems and partnerships with community organizations.
Performing related administrative duties as assigned.


This is a restricted position which is funded by federal grants for a year period ending September 2026. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-general funds.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet requirements for use of title Dietitian/Nutritionist as authorized by Code of VA 54.1 2731.
Knowledge of principles/practices of nutrition/dietetics & its relationship to public health/regulations or standards for program
Knowledge of nutrition principles & ability to make nutritional assessments
Ability to communicate effectively with patients & staff members
Ability to respond to public inquiry regarding the nutrition program

Additional Considerations

Registration by Commission on Dietetic Registration
Obtain certification as Competent Professional Authority within (6) months of hire
