The Laramie Boomerang a trusted source of news in Albany County is seeking an energetic and dedicated reporter to join our newsroom. This news position offers an exciting opportunity to cover a variety of topics including University of Wyoming district and municipal court cases/crime local government other educational institutions business community events features and breaking news.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research report and write clear accurate and engaging news stories under tight deadlines.
- Cover city and county government meetings local events and other relevant happenings.
- Conduct interviews with sources including local officials business leaders and community members.
- Investigate and fact-check stories to ensure accuracy and credibility.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key contacts in the community.
- Take photos and videos to accompany articles when necessary.
- Stay informed about local issues and trends to generate compelling story ideas.
- Utilize social media and digital platforms to engage readers and promote stories.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in journalism communications or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Previous reporting experience preferred but recent graduates with strong writing skills will be considered.
- Excellent writing editing and storytelling abilities.
- Strong research and interviewing skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with AP Style.
- Photography and basic multimedia skills are a plus.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
