The Project

The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail (LGC) Project will double the number of rail tracks and upgrade stations for a section of the Gold Coast Line from Kuraby a suburb approximately 16km south of Brisbanes CBD to Beenleigh a suburb of Logan City.

Key elements of the project scope include:

  • Approximately 20km of new tracks and rail systems between Kuraby and Beenleigh stations increasing the corridor from two to four tracks including reconstruction of more than half the existing alignment
  • Station upgrades to improve accessibility safety and amenity including platform straightening and new pedestrian bridges
  • Decommissioning of the existing Loganlea Station and tie-in of new track alignment to the new Loganlea station (which will be constructed as part of a separate project)
  • Level crossing removals at Kuraby Woodridge Bethania and Holmview
  • Park n ride upgrades including a new carpark at Beenleigh Station
  • Extension of the cattle siding at Holmview
  • Active transport facilities and paths along the majority of the corridor
  • Readiness for a European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 signalling system

YourOpportunity

Reporting to the Possessions Manager your main responsibility is to manage a team of Protection Officers to deliver safe cost effective timely and high-quality service to meet customer business needs. Implement track possession authorities and perform the duties of Possession Protection Officer.

The role includes but is not limited to:

  • Schedule Protection Officers to ensure construction disruptions dont interfere with train schedules
  • Inspect how workers are setting up safe zones near the track to ensure train operations can proceed safely
  • Organise contingency measures when an incident disrupts planned operations or train movements
  • Review communications between field workers and Train Controllers to ensure clarity and effective operation
  • Perform safety briefings before work commences
  • Ensure protection equipment (e.g. flags detonators lights) is regularly inspected maintained and ready for deployment at all worksites
  • Actively assist Protection Officers or work teams to solve unexpected challenges on-site such as environmental risks equipment malfunctions or logistical delays
  • Monitor and manage corridor access permits to ensure compliance with Queensland Rail standard
  • Liaise daily with Corridor Access team members to secure safe access for works on or near the track
  • Participate actively in audits reviews and inspections addressing non-compliance and contributing to the improvement of safeworking practices

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Extensive experience in rail operations safeworking practices and track possession management within QR or similar organisations
  • Extensive experience conducting safeworking audits inspections and compliance reporting
  • Experience liaising with stakeholders such as Train Controllers Service Planning teams and contractors
  • Prior experience in managing incidents emergencies and risk mitigation in rail-related activities
  • Strong knowledge of Queensland Rail Safeworking rules QNRP and Workplace Health and Safety legislation
  • Excellent leadership and organisational skills to manage staff resources and operational plans effectively
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in documentation reporting and maintaining compliance records.
  • Competency in planning scheduling and optimizing resource allocation for rail safety operation
  • Resilient and able to remain effective in fast-paced high-pressure environments with constant changes
