FUNCTION OF THE JOB:
Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Shelbyville is accepting applications for a Full-Time Instructor in Industrial Maintenance Automation (IMA). This position is responsible for providing high-quality classroom laboratory and hands-on instruction to high school and adult students preparing them for employment in industrial maintenance automation and advanced manufacturing environments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individualized classroom lab and hands-on instruction in industrial maintenance automation including basic electricity and electronics motor controls programmable logic controllers (PLCs) hydraulics pneumatics robotics/mechatronics industrial automation systems preventive maintenance troubleshooting blueprint reading and industrial safety.
- Demonstrate safe and effective use of industry tools equipment instrumentation and automation systems.
- Monitor evaluate and document student progress.
- Manage accurate records and submit required reports.
- Maintain a safe organized training environment in compliance with OSHA and industry safety standards.
- Assist with student recruitment retention and job placement efforts.
- Establish and maintain relationships with business and industry; support advisory committee activities for program improvement.
- Participate in professional development to remain current in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent (HiSET acceptable).
- Postsecondary diploma or Associate degree in related field preferred.
- 3 years of work experience in industrial maintenance automation manufacturing mechatronics or a related field.
- Industry-recognized certifications or technical training in industrial maintenance automation or related fields preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to teach both technical theory and hands-on application in industrial maintenance automation.
- Ability to teach and effectively engage with high school and adult learners.
- Strong organizational communication interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students faculty staff and industry partners.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office or similar programs.
- Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) labeling and policy.
- Physically able to perform instructional demonstrations and field activities including climbing lifting up to 30 lbs. and working in outdoor environments (with or without accommodation).
- OSHA 10 certification preferred.
