Division Summary

Information Technology (IT) is the unified IT organization that supports the vision values mission and goals of the University by providing IT infrastructure systems administrative applications academic resources and related services to faculty students and staff. Embracing DUs Impact 2025 the division aligns IT resources with the University and unit strategic goals and operational plans providing service in the spirit of One DU.

The IT Network Operations team is responsible for the day-to-day operational support of all university-owned data voice and video services. This includes but is not limited to routers switches wireless LAN Voice over IP and call center applications.

Position Summary

The role of the Director Network Operations reports to the Vice Chancellor IT/CIO and enables the Vice Chancellor IT/Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the University to offer highly available robust IT services 24 hours per day and 365 days per year. Additionally the Director Network Operations will develop and implement operational checklists processes and procedures necessary to enable Tier 1 and Tier 2 support within the IT organization.

Essential Functions

  • Manage day-to-day IT Network Operations activities ensuring the integrity security and high availability of all IT Operations services.
  • Provide leadership to leverage technologies processes and disciplines for delivering best-in-class methods throughout IT Network Operations.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational abilities ability to prioritize and follow up on open issues and projects with a sense of urgency
  • Ensure that service delivery and customer satisfaction exceed published service levels and coordinate escalation of issues as required
  • Assist the staff responsible for the deployment maintenance and support of hardware and software.
  • Ensure that all IT Network Operations projects are well-defined planned and executed with a strong emphasis on communication and testing
  • Develop and respond to appropriate service level agreements and metrics and maintain comprehensive documentation of processes systems networks and change-control.
  • Responsible for driving the One DU culture through values and customer service standards.
  • Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication.
  • Takes initiative and action to respond resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in the field of computer science information systems computer engineering or a related field or equivalent work experience
  • 8 or more years of IT and/or business/industry work experience including network operations and information security
  • Leadership experience in managing multiple cross-functional teams or projects
  • Requires exposure to multiple diverse networking technologies
  • Proven leadership ability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in one of these fields preferred

Working Environment

  • The work environment is a university with cyclical periods of increased workloads with the possibility of moderate to high stress levels.
  • The unit is one of several working collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization.
  • The position may require working irregular hours including both weekends and evenings.
  • The work environment consists of surroundings with moderate noise levels and frequent contact with electrical devices.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop kneel crouch and crawl under desks/tables to troubleshoot cables and network connections; talk or hear; walk up flights of stairs.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In accordance with the Universitys flexible work policy this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 16.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $145000 - $148000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
