Data Scientist Intern

General Information

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Data Scientist Intern for its Technology Center group in their Raleigh NC location. This position is an annual part-time or full-time internship depending on the availability of the candidate in an R&D team that is serving global technology development of the distribution transformer business. Our business is power equipment manufacturing which involves various business processes from engineering to manufacturing. This position can be in the office or remote work. Candidates will not be required to travel.

Your responsibilities

• Display technical expertise in machine learning to a team with diversified technical competencies.
• Display proficiency in the application of machine learning in the engineering design process and use of predictive modeling in engineering and manufacturing process.
• Support developing predictive models and utilizing machine learning/data science techniques such as Hierarchical Clustering Neural Networks Ensemble Learning Random Forest Naive Bayes Gradient Boost etc.
• Consolidate SQL database from multiple sources data cleaning and manipulation in preparation for machine learning.

Requirement and qualification

• Student of Computer Science Data Science or related discipline
• Previous Experience of Python (Scikit-learn XGBoost Tensorflow Pytorch Numpy Pandas)
• Familiar with Jupyter notebooks VSCode and Python environment managment
• Previous experience on model training tuning evaluation and serving
• Basic knowledge of SQL Server or a similar relational database; Proficient in SQL scripting
• Previous experience with building machine learning models and implementation in real-life applications
• Optional experience with Azure DevOps Azure Machine Learning Databricks Spark is a plus but not mandatory
