Job Summary
SummaryThe Cardiac Sonographer III is responsible for independently performing all echocardiograms including those that are very complex in the hospital-based and/or pediatric settings. This could include complex valve cases complex congenital echoes Cath/EP lab cases biopsies TAVRs or pediatric Pediatrics independently performs comprehensive echocardiographic studies in patients with congenital and structurally abnormal hearts including pediatric post-operative adult congenital and fetal populations. As such this role requires advanced knowledge of congenital anatomy surgical repairs and age-dependent physiology and directly supports high-acuity diagnostic and clinical decision-making. The sonographer is responsible for precepting junior staff students and/or fellows and may be involved in accreditation applications and ongoing quality assurance projects. They are expected to step in and help in the absence of a lead sonographer or manager. The sonographer will understand the reasons for the patients exam and prepare preliminary reports with accurate measures and appropriate statements. The sonographer will comply with patient privacy and safety guidelines and adhere to departmental and hospital policies. Responsibilities may change over time at the discretion of department leadership to meet the departments evolving needs.
Essential Functions
-Perform all Cardiac Sonographer II responsibilities.
-Independently perform all cases.
-Troubleshoot Epic/PACS issues.
-Precept junior staff and/or students and set an example regarding work ethic workflow and technical expertise.
-Lead team in the absence of lead sonographers and provide back-up support as needed.
-Help collect data for the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).
-Willingness to pick up extra shifts to help with lab needs
-Guide administrative support staff when technical/scheduling questions arise to ensure optimal operation of the clinic and lab.
-Performs advanced cardiac imaging services including complex congenital pediatric fetal and structural echocardiography utilizing active pediatric echocardiography certification as required.
-Provides imaging support for Cath/EP lab procedures including biopsies and TAVR cases and delivers full assistance for advanced and 3D transesophageal echocardiography at designated community sites.
-Maintains responsibility for accreditation applications and ongoing quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
-Actively participates in teaching and mentoring fellows supports research initiatives through data collection imaging analysis abstract presentations and manuscript preparation and represents the organization in professional and industry settings.
Qualifications
Education
- Associates degree Diagnostic Medical Sonographer preferred
Licenses and Credentials
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer RCS - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer RDCS - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) required
- Basic Life Support BLS required
Experience
- Sonographer experience 5-7 years preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Skilled in performing echocardiograms on critically ill or high-acuity patients adapting techniques to complex clinical scenarios.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in performing studies across diverse clinical settings including inpatient outpatient procedural and emergency environments.
