Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with inpatient clients and families to formulate and implement individualized client-centered goals with focused targeted and measurable outcomes. This includes support and respect of the client/familys rights to make decisions based on their own values beliefs and experiences without judgement.
  • Provide direct client care in collaboration with the client/family to plan implement and evaluate care documenting the habilitative/rehabilitative process according to hospital policies.
  • Interface and problem solve with members of the inpatient interprofessional care team and community providers as appropriate to ensure an integrated approach to care.
  • Incorporate evaluative activities into professional practice to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective health care.
  • Utilize research to establish and support evidence-informed practice.
  • Utilize the teaching/learning process to provide education on various conditions both formal and informal to clients/families colleagues students and other professionals within the organization and the community.
  • Provide direct service consultation and education to clients families and community providers with focus on maximizing the clients function in the areas of self-care productivity (school and play skills) and leisure (community or sports participation).
  • Address challenges identified during inpatient stay in client occupational performance.
  • Provide age appropriate assessment and intervention( individual and group based) directed at the person occupation and environmental factors influencing occupational performance such as activities of daily living; instrumental daily living and community participation. Address performance components in the areas of physical cognitive and psychosocial function. Recommend environmental modifications to support participation across all domain.
  • Ability to delegate intervention plans to OTAs and provision of appropriate supervision
  • Practices according to organizational policies and standards of practice as set out by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives such as quality boards supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices.
  • Documents workload statistics according to the Ministry of Health
  • Documents on clients electronic health record as required following Hospital and regulatory college policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Occupational Therapy (or Bachelor degree in Occupational Therapy plus other Masters) required
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario required
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and/or the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience in occupational therapy assessment and treatment of children and youth essential with experience with acquired brain injury an asset
  • Knowledge of and experience with occupational therapy assessment techniques therapeutic skills modalities and their applications.
  • Knowledge of and experience with splinting devices as well as fabricates adapts alters or repairs splints or assistive devices such as hand splints preferred
  • Knowledge of an experience with a wide variety of lifts and transfers from wheelchairs beds bathtubs toilets etc. required
  • Experience with current outcome measures (i.e. Canadian Occupational Performance Measure Goal Attainment Scaling manual muscle testing etc.) an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities effectively and efficiently
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and in a solution focused manner with inpatient clients families and members of the interprofessional care team
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an inpatient interprofessional team is essential
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and occupational therapy student education
  • Experience with being a positive change agent and quality improvement initiatives is an asset
  • Status appointment in the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy at University of Toronto is an asset
