SUMMARY:

Supervise students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) for disciplinary under the general supervision of the campus Principal Assistant Principal and the immediate direction of a certified a highly structured and orderly environmenton a daily basis.

MAJORRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Instructional Support

  • Work with certified teacher and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured classroom environment.
  • Work with individual students to complete assignments given by classroom teacher.
  • Consult classroom teachers regarding student assignments.
  • Distribute collect and check student assignments for accuracy.
  • Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return them to classroom teachers.

Student Management

  • Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies administrative regulations and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Record student attendance and discipline referrals according to established procedures.
  • Supervise students assigned to ISS during lunch and bathroom breaks.

Other

  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and special events and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Provideotherclerical and instructionalassistance as neededwhen students are not assigned to ISS.
  • Ensure that all interactions with studentsDistrict personnel and parents are supportive courteous and respectful.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Policy Reports and Law

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile maintain file and secure all physical and computerized reports records and other required documents.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with all policies operating procedures legal requirements and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices forTexasEducators.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma orequivalent*
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
  • ValidEducationalAideIII Certificate**

*For positions funded by Title monies or for positions at campuses identified as a campus-wide Title campus the following additional qualifications apply:

  • Associatedegree two years of study at an institute of higher learning or have met formal academic assessmentas required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for aides who are providing instructional support in Title I Part A program.

**Note: An Educational Aide III certificate is required for aides assigned to a setting where studentsGrades 912 are assigned for less than six weeks.A valid TexasTeachingCertificate is required when studentsGrades 912 are assigned more than six weeks.(See State Board for Educator CertificationTeacher Assignment Chart page 26).

Experience:

  • One(1)yearof clerical/secretarialexperience(or related experience)in an office setting
  • Experience in educational environment (preferred)

  • Ability to be self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to operate multi-line phone system
  • Effective public relations organization communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read; understand and follow detailed written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to speak read and understand English
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations
  • Proficient in keyboardingand file maintenance

Tools/Equipment Used:

  • Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture:

  • Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion:

  • Repetitive hand motions frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting:

  • Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment:

  • Work to be completed on-site from assigned school orbuilding
  • Regular exposure to noise and computer monitors
  • May work outside(exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather)
  • No remote work

  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stresswork; prolonged or irregular hours
