Quality Manager
Purpose:
Colonnas Shipyard is seeking a Quality Manager at our Facility in Norfolk VA. The Quality Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of their assigned area of the Quality Department. The Quality Manager is responsible for aiding in the development of subordinates and aiding in the development implementation and surveillance of the Quality Management System (QMS).
The position is located onsite in Norfolk VA and may require hours beyond a standard work week to support business operations as needed and may require local or out of the area travel.
Job Description:
- Manage/oversee the day-to-day operations of assigned area of the Quality Department.
- Maintain/manage/oversee documents records data and objective quality evidence (OQE). Provide copies of the documents as required to internal and external customers. Responsible for ensuring adequate and timely OQE submittals to customers as required.
- Generates reviews and/or submits Process Control Procedures (PCPs) Test and Inspection (T&I) Plans Required Reports Condition Reports etc.
- Aids in the creation maintenance and updating of QMS documents as directed.
- Liaison between Colonnas Shipyard and customers to answer and investigate any discrepancies concerns and/or issues that may arise.
- Assists or leads in preparing the Quality Department to meet external certification or customer audit requirements which may include full preparation for assigned areas.
- Conduct or participate in meetings as needed to discuss a variety of quality matters including past audits senior management review meetings status of CARs OFI implementation and/or other quality matters.
- Train Quality Assurance Quality Control Production Project and Program personnel on Quality Plans Procedures Work Instructions Contract and Customer Requirements and other quality matters as needed.
- Participates/conducts weekly departmental meetings to discuss quality topics in assigned area.
- Participates and leads quality focused requirements during various phases of product life cycle in assigned area.
- Perform internal audits per audit schedule.
- Assigned additional tasks/duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Must have 5 years of quality management experience in manufacturing (steel construction) engineering services or technical field to include experience in roles with quality related responsibilities for assigned area.
- Must have knowledge of quality techniques and systems including quality specifications and/or advanced quality systems.
- Must have exceptional interpersonal negotiation and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Department of Defense contracting direct experience with government customer relations in a maritime setting is strongly preferred.
- American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) program and certification direct experience is strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of nondestructive testing with current NDT Level II quals through ASNT is strongly preferred.
- Bachelors Degree in a related quality or engineering field is strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001 Standards and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification is preferred.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal Travel; 15% or less.
Physical Requirements:
- Remain in a stationary position could be standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Ability to sit and work on a computer for long periods.
- Ability to Sit Stand Walk Bend Squat Climb Reach Push and Pull Stoop Crawl Kneel Balance Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
- Lighting and temperature are adequate and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise dust etc.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Due to work being in a shipyard/industrial environment this type of work has physical demands that requires frequent movement up to 50% of the time. Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility.
- Work is generally performed within an office environment with standard office equipment available but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
