Position: NOVA Teacher (Grades 3-5)
Status: Full Time (1.0 FTE)
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Moses Lake School District is seeking a dynamic innovative educator for our NOVA program. The NOVA teacher provides specialized instruction for highly capable students in a pull-out setting focusing on gifted pedagogy that emphasizes depth complexity and acceleration. The ideal candidate acts as a bridge between specialized enrichment and the general education classroom ensuring that our most advanced learners are challenged academically and supported social-emotionally.
Beyond the classroom this role serves as a key strategic partner to district leadership in the multi-year overhaul and expansion of the K-12 Highly Capable program. The successful candidate will help transition our current model into a comprehensive continuum of services that meets the needs of advanced learners from Kindergarten through graduation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification: Valid Washington State teacher certification (K-8) required.
Education: Elementary Education training and/or experience.
Endorsement: Gifted Education endorsement or significant progress toward one (Highly Preferred).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Compliance: Deep knowledge/understanding of Washington State HiCap WACs (392-170) and RCWs.
Specialized Experience: Proven track record working with HiCap students and Twice-Exceptional (2e) learners.
Diverse Learners: Experience/training in working with English Language Learners and students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
DEMONSTRATED ABILITIES
Communication: Ability to communicate effectively and proactively with students staff parents and community regarding the unique needs of gifted learners.
Environment: Create a student-centered learning environment that encourages intellectual risk-taking and high-level inquiry.
Equity & Identification: Ability to use multi-measure data to identify giftedness across all student populations ensuring equitable access to the NOVA program.
Differentiation: Mastery in curriculum compacting and providing high-floor no-ceiling learning opportunities.
Data Literacy: Expert use of formative and summative data including universal screening tools (e.g. CogAT SBA) to drive instructional shifts.
Standards Mastery: Demonstrated ability to extend and deepen Common Core State Standards (ELA/Math) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) beyond grade-level expectations.
Teamwork: A positive collaborative attitude anchored in the best interest of students and the ability to work within a Professional Learning Community (PLC).
Professionalism: Excellent attendance and a commitment to shared decision-making.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction: Design and deliver qualitatively different instruction for NOVA pull-out classes (Grades 3-5) that focuses on higher-order thinking skills.
Social-Emotional Support: Implement strategies to support the unique affective needs of HiCap students including addressing perfectionism asynchronous development and underachievement.
Collaboration: Work closely with general education teachers to ensure the NOVA experience complements classroom learning and serves as a resource for differentiation strategies school-wide.
Program Advocacy: Assist with the organization and planning of enrichment events such as Science Nights Math Olympiads or Parent Education nights focused on giftedness.
Management: Maintain a classroom environment conducive to high-level engagement and utilize positive behavior management strategies.
Continuous Improvement: Participate actively in building-level and district-level management processes and professional development.
