Job Summary
Job Summary: Manage litigation filed by and against the Company arising from insurance policies for all lines of business. Engage in collaborative projects in support of other areas of the company including underwriting finance and accounting actuarial operations and technology.
Job Duties:
Efficiently manage a volume of coverage litigation involving a broad spectrum of accounts and policy forms. For assigned files promptly analyze matter retain counsel develop and oversee litigation strategy and manage litigation by effectively interacting with counsel and other parties as addition oversee all aspects of discovery working with other parties and establish timely and appropriate reserves. Represent the Company in the resolution of matters and participate in legal proceedings including mediations and arbitrations.
Ensure compliance with the litigation hold procedure.
Stay current on caselaw developments and trends with respect to insurance coverage and extra-contractual liability.
Regularly report claim developments and trends to claims and underwriting management.
Provide guidance on coverage questions or potential coverage matters to claim department personnel.
Identify training opportunities for members of other departments including claims and underwriting.
Work with other areas of the Company including underwriting; finance and accounting; actuarial; operations; and technology on projects as requested. Prepare claim summaries and other reports as necessary for management.
Report suits filed by or against the Company as well as potential suits to Allied Worlds E&O carriers. Provide quarterly updates to E&O carriers regarding open matters previously reported.
Attend and/or represent the Company at relevant industry conferences/meetings.
Identify and recruit coverage counsel to represent the Company in coverage disputes.
Job Requirements: At least 15 years experience handling liability insurance claims
managing litigation or related relevant experience. A J.D. degree is required.
Excellent negotiation and communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office products legal research internet research and typing.
Ability to accurately and timely analyze coverage and instruct and collaborate with counsel regarding litigation strategy and resolution and resolve matters and otherwise act within the scope of delegated authority.
