JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective
The light equipment operator primarily supports operationsof the Grounds and Cemetery Division of Public Works but may support allDepartment divisions as required. The operator operates a variety of equipmentused in the construction maintenance and repair of roads highways parkinglots and public grounds.

Essential Functions

1.Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager andimmediate supervision of the Division Superintendent operates all Townvehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

2.Performs simple maintenance on equipment includingchecking all fluid and oil levels greasing all fittings checking air pressurein tires and checking all lights and safety equipment on each vehicle.

3.Report any major problemencountered while inspecting or driving any Town vehicle.

4.Perform laborers duties to complete all Public Works relatedtasks assigned including road repair drainage installation and repairlandscaping repairing plows lifting and carrying objects and basiccarpentry work.

5.Assist mechanics in repairingTown Equipment as needed.

6.Operate equipment in plowingsnow sanding operations and ice removal.

7.Participate in the on-callemergency listing.

8.Participate in bulk-item andcomposting programs.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job the employee isfrequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles moving mechanical parts andvibration. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme weather noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative ofthose that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essentialfunctions of this job.

While performing the duties of thisjob the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is continuallyactive and requires standing walking bending kneeling stooping crouching crawlingand climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to tenpounds and occasionally lift or move items up to one hundred pounds. Specificvision abilities required by this job include close vision distance visioncolor vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Abilityto use and wear personal protective equipment and clothing such as hearingprotection eye protection foot and hand protection and respiratoryprotection.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time benefit eligible position. Days andhours of work are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 40 hours perweek. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel
No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience
High School diploma or ; 1-2 Years of experience

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Possession of or ability to obtain:

  1. A valid state drivers license with CDL Class B and Air Brakes endorsement with no active violations within the previous three years.
  2. Hoisting license 2B preferred.

Work Authorization
Provideappropriate documentation to verify your authorization to work in the UnitedStates.
