Location Information:

This role is based at our Burlington Ontario facility supporting our Lab Automation group an ISO 9001 certified organization. At this location we design manufacture and install robotic solutions globally to help our major customers in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields accelerate their drug discovery and synthetic biology research. As a Global Trade Compliance Specialist you will ensure Thermo Fisher Scientific complies with international import/export regulations by interpreting and following global trade compliance policies. You will manage relationships with customs brokers oversee product classification perform regular audits and monitor changes in trade laws. Your efforts will help maintain efficient global trade operations contributing to our organizations success.

What you will contribute:

  • Ensure compliance will all Canadian and global Import/Export Regulations
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with trade laws and regulations and Thermo Fisher Scientifics Global Trade Compliance Management System(GTCMS).
  • Manage relationships with customs brokers freight forwarders and other logistics partners.
  • Perform and evaluate the process for accurate transaction screening and review of transactions including denied and restricted party screening
  • Build and Implement a Free Trade Agreement program for applicable imports and exports
  • Classification of all imported and exported products: HTS ECCN COO and maintaining the ERP System. Interaction with suppliers required.
  • Interact and coordinate data gathering with suppliers establishing a tracking method for material classifications
  • Records retention: handling the Import/Export transaction documentation and performing random audit check as required by company policy and regulations
  • Perform regular audits of trade compliance processes and documentation and establish KPIs
  • Monitor and interpret changes in trade laws and regulations and advise on their impact on company operations
  • Follow the timely reporting obligations to appropriate customs authorities and site/divisional leadership
  • Identify training needs co-develop and provide training
  • Support the continuous improvement of the companys trade compliance program

How will you get here

Education & Experience:

  • 5 years of experience within Canadian and U.S. import/export control compliance functions ideally in an international environment.
  • Expertise in Free Trade Agreements (FTA) and Certificates of Origin (COO).
  • Knowledge of HTS ECCN classification and Country of Origin.
  • Experience with Global Trade Compliance Software (e.g. OneSource).
  • Familiarity with various ERP systems (e.g. Navision SAP).

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to adapt and balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail
  • Familiar with continuous improvement activities (PPI Kaizen JDI)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Suite Software
  • Self-motivated and driven with excellent collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team proactive with a positive demeanor
