JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Staff Engineer (Geotechnical & Construction Materials Testing)
Location: Atlanta GA
Work Setting (Remote/ Hybrid/ On-site): On-site

POSITION SUMMARY
2MNEXT is seeking a motivated Staff Engineer to support both our Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) teams. This role offers a balanced mix of field and office work and is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to gain hands-on experience in subsurface investigations engineering analysis and construction-phase services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Assist with planning and performing subsurface explorations including soil borings test pits and in-situ testing
• Log soil and rock samples in accordance with USCS and document field conditions
• Review and interpret laboratory and field data (e.g. classification compaction CBR shear strength)
• Perform basic geotechnical analyses such as bearing capacity settlement and pavement evaluations under supervision
• Support preparation of geotechnical reports with recommendations for foundations earthwork and site development
• Coordinate with drilling subcontractors and testing laboratories
• Perform and/or oversee construction materials testing including soil density concrete sampling and asphalt testing
• Prepare daily field reports and assist with final documentation and deliverables
• Communicate with project managers contractors and clients to ensure quality and schedule compliance

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering (geotechnical emphasis preferred)
• EIT certification or actively pursuing licensure
• Familiarity with ASTM standards USCS classification and basic geotechnical principles
• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Ability to work both in field environments and office settings
• Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to project sites

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

• Internship or prior experience in geotechnical engineering or CMT
• Experience with field testing equipment (e.g. nuclear gauge DCP)
• Familiarity with geotechnical or engineering software

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position entails approximately 80% field/lab work and 20% office with occasional travel.
