Position Description

The Assistant Manager Total Compensation is an integral part of the People and Culture team responsible for the day-to-day management of the Universitys payroll pension and benefits program. The Assistant Manager is responsible for leading a team of Total Compensation Specialists in ensuring accurate employee set up/data entry in the HRIS and oversight and management of payroll for both hourly and salary employees while meeting departmental service standards. The Assistant Manager ensures the Total Compensation teams adherence to governing legislation and regulations best practices University policies collective agreements and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the payroll processes and ensuring timely remittance of source and other deductions reviewing and approving payments troubleshooting payroll issues and resolving concerns complaints and problems.
  • Regularly audit payroll to ensure payroll accuracy.
  • Ensuring payroll policies and procedures comply with legislation relevant collective agreement requirements and University policies. Acts as liaison with relevant government agencies internal and external auditors and vendors.
  • Overseeing year-end processes including issuing of T4 and T4A statements.
  • Responding to day-to-day inquiries from employees on total compensation matters and advising on entitlements under the benefit and pension plans.
  • Administering the day-to-day activities associated with the benefit and pension plans.
  • Organizing delivering and assisting with training sessions on benefits pension plan retirement and related topics.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Three to five years of experience including with leading a team of professionals.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation required.
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferably with experience in post-secondary education.
  • Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality.
