We are seeking a flexible dynamic Physical Therapist to join our premier health organization as a Float PT. About the Role
As a Float Physical Therapist youll work across three nearby rehabilitation locations in both outpatient and inpatient settings gaining exposure to diverse patient populations and clinical environments. Youll plan and implement individualized treatment programs based on the principles and practices of Physical Therapy collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary treatment team. Youll report to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Evaluation & Treatment Planning:
Review requisitions for Physical Therapy
Interview patients and evaluate their physical condition and needs
Develop customized corrective exercise and treatment programs
Consult with physicians as needed regarding treatment alternatives
Therapeutic Intervention:
Determine appropriate equipment use application and body positioning
Administer treatments including exercise gait training soft tissue mobility whirlpool hot packs ultrasound paraffin ice packs electrical stimulation and traction
Educate patients on program components and proper use of assistive devices (wheelchairs crutches canes braces prosthetics)
Adjust treatment plans based on patient progress
Documentation & Communication:
Complete required documentation including evaluations treatment plans progress notes and discharge summaries
Communicate effectively with nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated care
Team Support & Leadership:
Provide direction to support staff involved in patient care
Assume responsibilities of Senior Therapists in their absence
Quality Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to departmental policies procedures and quality initiatives
Maintain a safe environment for patients visitors and staff
Follow all hospital safety protocols including fire safety and disaster procedures
Use equipment safely and ensure proper working condition
Comply with Universal Precautions and use required protective equipment
Report unsafe conditions and participate in safety programs
Operational Support:
Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies
Participate in meetings and committees as required
Assist with patient transport when needed
Professional Development:
Engage in ongoing education workshops and professional development opportunities
Complete all mandatory annual training
Patient-Centered Care:
Provide age-appropriate care across all populations (neonate infant pediatric adolescent adult geriatric)
Deliver compassionate attentive care focused on both physical and psychological patient needs
Maintain clear communication to ensure a secure and positive patient experience
Requirements
Education & Licensure (Required):
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice Physical Therapy in New York State at time of hire
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or equivalent degree from an accredited program
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire
Experience (Preferred):
Hospital experience preferred
0-30 years of experience considered
Experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings preferred
English language proficiency required
Physical Requirements:
Moderate to significant physical activity including lifting pushing and pulling
Ability to lift at least 30 pounds independently
Ability to lift up to 150 pounds with assistance
Requires standing walking and moving throughout shifts
