Job Summary

The Projects and Initiatives Manager (Fare Revenue) is a critical role responsible for strategy implementation and coordination of projects and initiatives in the Fare Revenue Department. This role will support the Deputy Chief of Fare Revenue to assist in all aspects of the management and daily operations of the Fare Revenue Department. This role is instrumental in ensuring effective planning coordination and follow-through on key departmental activities priorities.

This position requires the ability to think critically and independently while working productively and proactively without constant direct supervision. This position must maintain and exercise the highest level of discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential information. This role also requires excellent project management skills demonstrating the ability to plan prioritize and coordinate staff resources to achieve assigned objectives on time and within scope.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Initiate manage and facilitate initiatives cross-functional projects and working groups from initiation to completion to meet the MBTAs long-term goals.
  • Oversee and coordinate activities of the Fare Revenue Department including but not limited to draft correspondence and other documents prepare presentations memos action items and talking points for different occasions and audiences.
  • Develop oversee and implement project plans timelines and budgets for Fare Revenue initiatives.
  • Communicate with stakeholders including internal departments external agencies and the public to ensure project alignment and buy-in.
  • Support the management the development and maintenance of project documentation and control including workplans SOPs matrices and process maps.
  • Identify follow up and resolve project-related challenges ensuring the projects stay on track and meet goals and ensure issues are flagged and addressed.
  • Work with team members to ensure the project shared documents are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Support Fare Revenueskey projects and initiatives including tracking reporting on and assisting with the production of deliverables for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create presentations on the progress of the Fare Revenue Departments initiatives and deliver on behalf of Senior Leadership as directed.
  • Understand high-quality technical documentation business cases and project reports to liaise between Senior Leadership and project staff to articulate and escalate concerns and drive resolution.
  • Prioritize identify and manage potential risks associated with special projects such as safety security financial and logistic issues or delays.
  • Work independently in addressing tasks in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Follow up on actions required for task completion while seeking guidance as necessary.
  • Attend meetings and represent the Deputy Chief of Fare Revenue when needed.
  • Assist the Deputy Chief of Fare Revenue in the day to day operations and activities of the revenue teams to ensure adherence to MBTA and Fare Revenue policies.
  • Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at events as needed.
  • Respond to each customer vendor or co-worker inquiry professionally and courteously.
  • Prepare correspondence reports charts and presentations utilizing Microsoft Office tools.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years of relevant progressive work experience in business operations program management project management customer service or similar field including representing a senior leader in meetings preparing and delivering status updates and regular briefings to management and/or external stakeholders leading cross-functional working groups and operating with discretion and independent judgement.
  • One (1) year of managerial supervisory and/or leadership experience.
  • Experience creating and maintaining formal workplans SOPs matrices or process maps and driving follow-ups to closure across multiple workstreams.
  • A valid drivers license.
  • Ability to provide internal and external team members and customers with a courteous and professional experience.
  • Ability to oversee document control and management.
  • Strong communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively across business levels.
  • Ability to support multiple assignments and stakeholders prioritize workload for self and coordinate with direct reports to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including Outlook SharePoint Teams PowerPoint and Excel.

Substitutions Include

  • A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelors degree requirement.
  • An associate degree from an accredited institution with an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelors degree requirement.
  • A masters degree in a related subject substitutes for two (2) years of general experience.
  • A nationally recognized certification or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Ability to effectively use data visualization tools such as Tableau PowerBI AWS Azure or Athena.
  • Experience in programming languages such as SQL or Python.
  • Overseeing systems for document control and processes.
  • Experience using Project Management Software such as Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) e-Builder or PeopleSoft (FMIS).
  • Ability to read and understand construction as-builts drawings and contract specifications.
  • Strong project management skills.

Job Conditions:

  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age except if participating in an approved high school internship / co-op program.
  • Ability to commute to assigned work locations in the Boston MA metro area as required by the role.

  • Ability to uphold the rights and interests of the MBTA while building and maintaining effective relationships with employees and co-workers.

  • Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check comprehensive background screening and / or medical Clinic screening potentially including physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned directed or necessary for this position including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions emergencies or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service.
  • Intern / co-op staff must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited educational program and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the entire duration of the internship / co-op. Additionally interns / co-ops must have valid work authorization and U.S. Social Security Numberprior to starting pre-employment screenings / pre-boarding working in their positions and throughout the duration of their program.
