Job Summary

The Housing Pathways SupportPractitioner provides housing and homelessness support through earlyintervention crisis response and intensive case management for individualsand families with complex needs. The role involves holistic assessment culturallyinformed planning and advocacy to secure safe affordable housing. Workingwithin a trauma-informed culturally safe framework the Practitioner partnerswith Aboriginal communities to strengthen connections to culture and supportpositive housing outcomes while also offering specialist advice to enhancebroader service delivery.

GEGAC is an AboriginalCommunity Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting ofabout 200 staff GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holisticservices in the areas of Primary Health Social Services Elders &Disability and Early Childhood Education.

Position Purpose

The Housing Pathways SupportPractitioner within the Youth Services and Housing Pathways unit provideshousing and homelessness support and advice. The role operates with autonomyand professional judgement to deliver early intervention crisis responses andintensive case management for individuals and families with complex housingneeds. The Practitioner undertakes holistic assessments develops culturallyinformed case plans advocates with housing providers and facilitates accessto safe affordable and sustainable housing options.

Grounded in a culturallysafe trauma-informed approach the role works in partnership with Aboriginalcommunity members to navigate housing systems while strengthening connection toculture family and community. The position also provides secondary consultationand housing advice within the program supporting coordinated and effectiveservice delivery.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding of andcommitment to the Aboriginal community and local Aboriginal culture with theability to work in culturally safe and respectful ways.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experiencein the housing and homelessness sector including an understanding of thesystemic barriers and impacts experienced by people at risk of or who areexperiencing homelessness.
  • Proven ability to undertake holisticassessments provide intensive case management and deliver appropriatereferrals and housing pathway planning for clients with complex needs.
  • Capacity to exercise initiative andwork autonomously providing housing advice and secondary consultation withinthe program.
  • Ability to provide clear concise andculturally appropriate communication including the provision of advice oncomplex matters within the practice area.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagementand customer service skills with demonstrated ability to build and maintaineffective working relationships with clients colleagues housing providersand external agencies.
  • Demonstrated professionalism inmaintaining accurate records managing sensitive information and upholdingconfidentiality ethical practice and organisational policies.
  • Strong organisational and timemanagement skills including the ability to prioritise competing demandsalongside sound computer skills including Microsoft Office and clientmanagement systems.

Qualifications and RegistrationsRequirement (Essential or Desirable).

  • Valid Victorian drivers licence ESSENTIAL
  • Degree or Diploma with substantialexperience in a relevant field ESSENTIAL
  • A working knowledge and experience ofthe housing and homelessness sector ESSENTIAL
  • A satisfactory Working with ChildrenCheck and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
  • A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islanderbackground DESIRABLE
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGACrequirements ESSENTIAL
