Position Overview:
The Harris County Attorneys Office (HCAO) is seeking an administrative assistant to join our Compliance & Revenue Division which specializes in lawsuits for debt collection and enforcement of laws that protect the interest of Harris County. Under the supervision of the Division Director the legal assistant is responsible for performing delegated administrative tasks and works to achieve optimum efficiency and accomplish the goals of the Division and County Attorneys Office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilize the Compliance & Revenue Database for case management to open close and update files as well as run reports as needed.
Manage a high call volume with the public.
Mail out demand letters for payment as needed.
Provide general administrative and clerical support.
Produces high-quality and accurate work.
Demonstrate knowledge of job and required duties.
Maintain a work schedule that facilitates the needs of the organization.
Regularly communicate with the Division Director attorneys and other staff members.
Maintaining proficiency in internet resources.
Responsible for posting all revenue payments received in the Harris County Attorneys Office and making sure all payments have been logged in and secured accordingly.
Collect the appropriate documents needed to post payments in Database.
Communicate with attorneys and paralegals to make sure revenue is allocated correctly.
Assist customers who come in to make payments by providing excellent customer care.
Making sure checks are routed to the correct Harris County Departments.
Deliver checks to the Harris County Treasurers Office the Tax Office the District Clerks Office Juvenile Courts and JP Courts daily or as needed.
Work closely with customers assisting them by providing balances on files and mailing out payment receipts as needed.
Assist customers and clients in tracing checks money orders or fees that have been paid at other County entities.
Maintain close communication with Harris County Clients.
Provide Compliance Database Reports to Harris County Auditors on a monthly basis.
Regular communication with Harris County Auditors.
Ensure and prepare monthly reports along with receipts to be presented and ready for internal Auditing.
Enter Fee Office Payments in Database as needed for different case types.
Review case reports with assigned Attorney for accuracy on a monthly basis.
Responsible for sending out monthly reports to various county departments.
Assist attorneys in providing reports as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution and
- Two (2) years of experience as a legal assistantOR
- Two (2) years of experience handling finance/accounting-related matters
- Two (2) years of experience as a legal assistantOR
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Excellent writing skills.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to communicate and work in a collaborative group.
Strong work ethic great organizational skills superb interpersonal and social skills self-starter responsible and enjoys working independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency with technology and legal tools such as Windows Microsoft Office Suite Nitro PDF Software and DEEDS.
Ability to problem solve organize and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.

General Information
Located in downtown Houston the Harris County Attorneys Office represents Harris County government the Harris County Flood Control District the Harris County Toll Road Authority and the Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network in all civil matters including lawsuits. The office also provides legal advice to county officials and employees.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
This is an in office full-time position.
Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with occasional weekends and holidays as necessary.
Hours may vary based on the business needs of the HCAO.
Work Environment Physical and Mental Demands:
This job operates in a professional office environment and the individual in this role uses standard office equipment such as computers printers scanners/copiers and phones.
This is largely a sedentary role that requires standing or sitting for prolonged periods exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects including the human body repetitive motions requiring dexterity such as keyboarding that may include the wrists hands and/or fingers communicating with others to exchange concepts and information problem-solving decision-making organization the ability to read/write and the ability to manage workplace stressors such as adversarial interactions.
Compensation:
The base compensation for this position will be determined on the candidates qualifications and the pay of other employees in the job function. Total compensation includes attractive paid leave programs health benefits and retirement plans.
In addition the position is eligible for the accrual of compensatory time off for hours worked over 40 in a workweek consistent with Harris County personnel policies and procedures.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
