Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY
The Manager of Diamond Materials Growth is responsible for all production and engineering within the Saxonburg Diamond Materials Growth Department. The Manager will be responsible for efficient production of high-quality products being manufactured to meet the scheduling and quality demands of our customers. A strong focus is required on process yields operational efficiency and continuous improvement. The Manager will oversee the Diamond Materials Growth Engineers and Supervisors who are responsible for the production workforce. The Manager is responsible for near-term planning and execution for the department in alignment with the companys long-term strategy ensuring that the vision is established and executed. Staffing levels equipment and training are managed to support business growth and fluctuations in accordance with the five-year plan. Engineering development and continuous improvement are in alignment with current demand and future growth.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Management
- Senior Management is kept informed of all relevant production capacity and manpower issues.
- Meets daily with Supervisors and Engineering to review department performance results production needs and issues.
- Sufficient capacity is developed to maintain appropriate lead times and react to market opportunities while maintaining consistent quality.
- Bottlenecks are addressed in a timely manner thru hiring and cross-training. Cross-training is done to ensure at least two employees are trained in each functional area.
- Department KPIs are monitored and reported and action plans are put in place when KPIs do not meet the budget.
- Takes part in 5-year planning budget cycle.
- Operators and Supervisors are trained to meet high-level productivity and quality expectations.
- NPI development and prototypes are supported by production with proper planning and execution.
- Standards to actuals are monitored and updated accordingly.
Continuous Improvement & Engineering
- Drive operational excellence. Ensure Engineers are identifying and addressing quality yield and process issues.
- Take part in strategic planning of process capabilities and development to ensure they are aligned with overall OS strategy.
- Supervise engineers and work with other departments to unite the groups and break down barriers between areas and processes.
- Take part in and lead regular engineering meetings on issues and continuous improvement projects to ensure they are aligned with department needs.
- Identify and lead process transfers to other sites to increase worldwide capacity and capabilities. Ensure processes are following MITS and yield and process times are in alignment between sites.
- Support the development of a lean system through the Kaizen tools and events.
- Identify and work to resolve internal and external supply chain and quality issues that affect process efficiency.
- Effective corrective actions are put in place to prevent issues from reoccurring.
Leadership & Employee Development
- Leadership ethics and motivation (Coherent I-Care Values) are demonstrated in all activities.
- Promote a positive attitude in the workplace toward the accomplishment of the department and company goals.
- Supervise and assign work to staff to ensure continuity.
- Ensure that all Coherent management philosophies policies and practices are being followed.
- Intervene in workplace interpersonal conflicts in a timely and unbiased manner; include management and/or other resources when required.
- Through daily/weekly/monthly observations personnel performance is assessed and feedback is provided in support of employee continuous improvement and goal achievement efforts.
- Effectively manage team to facilitate 24-hour support.
- Maintain effective communication between Management Supervision Technicians and the Operations Support Teams (Process Equipment Advancement & Maintenance and Facilities).
- Complete quarterly/bi-annual check-ins and annual reviews completed 100% on time.
- HRR is completed and growth plans are put in place to ensure proper succession planning and individual growth.
Teamwork/Communication
- Work constructively and communicate regularly with Management Engineers Supervisors Maintenance and Technicians.
- Take a lead role and promote a strong ethical team environment within the department.
- Foster teamwork and engagement within the Equipment Team and outward into other departments.
Training
- Mentor and train personnel to perform responsibilities while following all environment health and safety requirements.
- Ensure department staff is trained on all requirements relevant to company policies and maintaining a safe work environment.
Health & Safety
- Ensure all departmental and company environment health and safety policies and procedures are promoted and adhered to.
- Ensure all policies and procedures relating to specified Personal Protective Equipment are followed.
- All machine accidents/crashes must be documented and communicated with an investigation initiated with the proper personnel (i.e. Management Maintenance Engineering)
- Conduct monthly safety audits/observations documenting any action items and close out in a timely manner.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelors Degree in Engineering Business Management or equivalent directly applicable experience
Experience: 8 years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
5 years of experience as a Supervisor or people leader.
3 years of experience in a project management role.
SKILLS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Strong mechanical and problem-solving abilities.
- Extremely good and effective organizational and leadership skills with the ability to mentor and motivate personnel.
- Ability to lead Engineers Supervisors and hourly workforce.
- Effective communication to direct and indirect reports.
- Good communication and interaction with all other Departments.
- Reacts positively in a high-stress multi-tasking environment.
Depending on location this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
