SF 224 Certified Welding Inspector Metal Fabrication Connecticut
Position Summary
The Certified Welding Inspector is responsible for overseeing quality assurance activities related to structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication. This position plays a critical role in ensuring fabricated products comply with project specifications approved shop drawings AWS welding standards AISC fabrication tolerances and internal quality procedures.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in welding inspection dimensional verification and fabrication quality control within a structural steel environment. This individual must be detail-oriented proactive and comfortable working directly on the production floor with fabrication welding and shop leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in-process and final inspections on structural steel and miscellaneous metal fabrication.
- Verify dimensional accuracy fit-up welding quality bolting coatings and compliance with shop drawings AWS codes and AISC standards.
- Monitor welding activities and ensure adherence to approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Maintain inspection reports repair logs non-conformance records and quality documentation.
- Identify fabrication or welding issues communicate findings and support corrective actions.
- Administer welder qualification testing and maintain qualification records.
- Collaborate with shop supervisors welders and production personnel to resolve quality concerns and support production schedules.
- Support AISC certification compliance audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Utilize Excel email and reporting tools to track inspections and communicate updates.
Qualifications
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required
- 5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication and quality inspection
- Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1/D1.5 codes and AISC fabrication standards
- Experience with dimensional inspections shop drawings WPS and welder qualifications
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel email and quality reporting systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting AISC certification programs and audits as well as additional welding or inspection certifications
- Experience with miscellaneous metals fabrication such as stairs railings and platforms
- Knowledge of fabrication workflows fit-up procedures and welding sequencing
