THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION (20 HOURS PER WEEK)
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Police Officers essential duty is to safely and expeditiously retrieve funds from various departments on UT Health Science Center property and to transport the collected funds to a designated financial institution for deposit. This position will also be utilized to complement shift shortages by providing safety and protection of personnel and property as well as to eliminate and deter all criminal activities for the University and the surrounding areas. This is accomplished by patrolling an assigned area to enforce laws and ordinances regulate traffic control crowds prevent crime and arrest violators. This position requires adherence to all departmental policies and procedures and support the vision and mission of UT Health Science Center and the Chief of Police.
Responsibilities
Collects funds from various departments on campus.
Coordinates with the Bursars Office prior to transporting funds; transports collected funds to the appropriate financial institution.
Deposits all collected funds at the banking institution; returns all deposit slips to respective departments.
Patrols the campus to deter crime and maintains building security.
Apprehends arrests and files charges against criminal suspects when appropriate.
Prepares and presents testimony in a court concerning traffic violations burglaries and other offenses.
Regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic; investigates traffic accidents and files preliminary accident reports.
Responds to security alarms and checks for intruders and burglars.
Notifies supervisors and/or authorities of theft trespassing fires or other unusual events; coordinates with other law enforcement agencies as necessary.
Provides security for special university events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of security or police experience. Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid drivers license in order to drive a patrol car. Must meet the minimum standards for pre-employment as stated by The Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission; must be a U.S. citizen; pass a physical and psychological exam; consent to a pre-employment background investigation and fingerprints; and qualify to carry a firearm; must be able to work rotating shifts.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Must satisfactorily complete at least one P.O.S.T. certified school or become POST certified within six (6) months of hire. Must complete an approved in-service training session appropriate for employees rank and responsibilities each year at a time and location designated and must complete the training in a satisfactory manner as a condition of continued possess a valid Tennessee drivers license or a valid license from a neighboring state ifresident of that state and must maintain a valid drivers license as a condition ofemployment. (LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must pass a physical and psychological exam. Must agree to comply with police appearance and grooming standards as set by Department policy and maintain such standards as a condition of employment.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Must be able to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays as directed.
