Job Summary

Position: Foster and Volunteer Manager

Department: Volunteer Programs

Immediate Supervisor: Shelter Director

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt full-time position

Hours and days will vary depending on organizational needs. Includes weekend and some holiday work.

Availability: Brother Wolf operates 7 days a week 365 days a year as animals need daily care.

The Foster and Volunteer Manager works a 5-day weekly schedule that meets the needs of the organization; typically Tuesday-Saturday from 9AM to 5PM.

General Position Summary:

The Foster and Volunteer Manager is the first contact for Brother Wolfs extensive network of Foster Parents and Volunteers. Animals in our care spend the majority of their time in foster homes before adoption making this program essential to the organizations mission and as a nonprofit organization volunteers are essential to our mission work. The Foster and Volunteer Manager is responsible for expanding and sustaining the foster and volunteer networks at Brother Wolf through the orientation training cultivating positive relationships and providing resources supplies advice feedback and support.

Essential Function/Major Responsibilities:

  • Stewards relationships with foster parents and volunteers through in-person interactions email and phone serving as the primary point of contact for the Foster and Volunteer Programs.
  • Drives animal placement into foster homes by actively promoting animals through multiple channels and strategically matching them with appropriate foster parents.
  • Facilitates foster animal dropoff and pickup appointments as well as supply pickups.
  • Manages associated Facebook groups promoting an engaging and supportive virtual community and facilitating communication on behalf of Brother Wolf.
  • Provides ongoing coaching feedback and performance support to Foster Parents and Volunteers.
  • Monitors trends within the Foster and Volunteer programs and uses historical data to inform programmatic decisions.
  • Collaborates with Marketing to send strategic communications to the Foster Parent and Volunteer networks.
  • Leads the Foster Parent and Volunteer orientation process ensuring participants are fully prepared and aligned with program expectations.
  • Plans and executes program appreciation events.
  • Solicits behavioral and personality information about foster pets from Foster Parents and Volunteers to support the Adoptions team in making informed placement decisions.
  • Stays current on national best practices for Foster and Volunteer programs and applies learnings to continuously improve program quality.
  • Manages and maintains organized inventory of supplies for the programs.
  • Coordinates and communicates volunteer shifts and opportunities in alignment with program goals.
  • Treats all animals humanely properly and with compassion at all times regardless of the situation or circumstance. Promotes a humane and caring attitude toward all animals.
  • Maintains a welcoming professional demeanor and models excellent customer service for the team.
  • Provides cross-functional support and performs other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication customer service and time management skills.
  • Genuine affection for animals concern for their welfare and a willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace.
  • Experience and comfortability using Google Suite databases writing professional emails and speaking on the phone. Experience with ShelterLuv and GalaxyDigital a plus.
  • Ability and initiative working with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Maturity excellent judgment and a professional personal demeanor.
  • Ability to read write and understand English. Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Desire to foster and nurture relationships and public relations beneficial to the organization and our programs.
  • Understand agree with and live the Brother Wolf mission values and vision.
  • Familiarity with companion animals knowledge of companion animal behavior or experience working with or volunteering with a rescue group humane society foster care involvement or other animal welfare agency is a plus.
  • Comfort and ability to work with animals of unknown disposition and those who exhibit medical and other problems as well as aggressive tendencies.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical ability to walk and or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday required. Ability to bend and squat.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry 50lbs and push up to 150lbs independently when necessary.
  • Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions of legs arms and hands and to hear and see clearly.
  • Allergic conditions which may be aggravated when handling or working with animals may be a disqualification.

Working conditions:

Conditions may include working alone working inside or outside during varying weather conditions frequent interruptions and some evenings/weekends meetings events and classes.
